The Ghoul!

In the June-July 1953 issue of Frankenstein #25, we find everyone's favorite flat-top freak once again mingling with an unsavory fiend in what amounts to one of the more memorably gruesome entries from Dick Briefer's classic series. Seriously, this one's got it all: grave robbing, acid baths, skeletons and more!

  1. Welcome back, Karswell!
Speaking for many of your fans, we all missed you, and your horrifying tales of terror!

    Great story.
...and the cover illustrates a good point of ettiquette --
always, ALWAYS offer your guests a fresh skull WITH the spinal column intact!
So often I am handed only a skull, and I have to pretend I'm satisfied, when I really want a good spinal column to munch on.

  2. I see the "goof" mask in a lot of ads from old comics. I've always wondered what it was supposed to be.

  5. Welcome back from the edge of the Earth, Karswell! :-p

The cover looks like Frank's saying "...see the devastating effects of eroded tooth enamel?"

I took an acid bath once. I don't recommend it. *Dropping* acid? I might try that sometime.

  6. Yes, I hath returned (got a little lost on the way back from the Black Lagoon!) but anyway, thanks for the emails and for hanging in there with me while I sorted out the mess than was simply my faulty brain once again not functioning properly. I do want to add that posting may or may not be spotty for the rest of the month, but should be back on some kind of consistant schedule by March.

Thanks for the comments, and I'll see you all in a few days for the annual THOIA Valentine's Day Double Header Massacre!

  9. Well, I'm sure I speak for everybody when I point out that even a bath in Clorox will tend to make a skeleton too brittle to use as a decoration--let alone actual, flesh-eating acid. We understand these are just comic short cuts though, but at the time of reading we were worried that these plaster-coated skeletons would tend to flake badly.

Everyone has already told you how happy I am to have you back. This story was totally worth the wait. Briefer is just so smart. Hope your time away was recuperative, and not recuperative-peculiar but recuperative-ha-ha.

  11. I must not make a joke about Frankenstein needing to check if a new friend has any skeletons in the closet.

  12. I second, third, and fourth the "welcome back" comments! And don't feel bad 'cause we all appreciate your efforts and (I'm assuming) have busy lives ourselves. And there's enough of a back log to keep even the biggest pre code geeks satisfied during the hiatus.

It actually worked out well for me because I've been so preoccupied with other things that I barely have time to read postings lately, never mind choose, scan and post them!!

Looking forward to the Valentine's double header.
