The Voodoo line was especially demented, as I remember. And the covers always looked like something you'd find on the bottom of your shoe.
Love it.
I like it when he gets super excited about wearing a beach towel and a cape (and a necklace of black flowers?). I found that really endearing, somehow. Poor headless bastard.

ReplyDeleteCouple art quibbles - deucedly odd-looking bat on page 5. And one of those guys in top panel page 2 is definitely treading on a panel 4 speech balloon.
What´s this with the hair again? Ah well, if you are good-looking, you don´t have to be smart. But maybe poor Mackay should have spend less time with a mirror and more with researching his new bride :-)

How many different artists worked on this? The splash looks a lot like like Mac Pakula and the top of Page five has an almost Dan Barry-like panel -- more likely it was just where this "Iger shop employee(s?)" was(were) swiping from.

Excellent splash panel... they guy's head is being carried off by a stuffed toy—and his body just keeps running along! (That cover's nice, too: the ghoul helpfully indicates a nice comfy grave, while the foreground fella is thinkin' that this isn't such a hot idea.)

ReplyDeleteWas that a dinosaur in the water? And that bat looked like a pterodactyl at first. I thought things were going to head towards the "lost world" route on this one.
So what's the theme, men using women and then getting murdered for it? I suppose only further tales will tell (or is the theme thing on hiatus since Brian Hirsch is doing the stories?).

THIS IS MY FAVORITE SPLASH EVER!! HAAAA LOVE HOW HE'S RUNNING AFTER HIS HEAD...... TO BAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE STORY. GREAT ENDING THOUGH. THE CRAPPY OFF COLORING IN THE LAST PANEL ACTUALLY MAKES IT MORE GORY THAN PROBABLY INTENDED.

ReplyDeleteI can see why she wouldn't want to give interviews and let it get out that even though she's a "princess," she comes from a grass-hut village of Samoan-European headsmen. At least she picked up some smart jodhpurs and bikinis while she was stateside. I do love those jodhpurs, especially on a KILLER LADY!
I'm casting Bruce Campbell in the lead for this adaptation. Too easy, but that's because he'd be perfect.
And what a bounty of books! That Creepy cover probably my all-time fave--wonder why? :)

ReplyDeleteWow!, that's one of the best splash pages i've ever seen!. Really digging the art too. My only ripe with the new theme is that it makes Valentine's Day seem longer than it should, makes me want to get a pick ax out... I feel really bad i wasn't the first to comment; that joke Oeconomist makes would have been sooo perfect.
