This would make a great motivational poster; SUPERSTITIOUS ROT: BELIEVE IN IT. Seriously it was a pretty enjoyable story, complete with a Hendrix cameo.

  2. I love how scientists in pre-code comic books rank just beneath zombies on the intelligence scale. We must go in the cursed, haunted forest. Look, the largest cocoon ever! We must cut it open at once! What could be inside?

And those are the *good* scientists.

  3. Why have these sf-stories mostly a preachy end? Was there a secret rule-book or something? :-)

Story was okay, even if the end seemed a bit laughable. "Like moths to the flame"? Huh?

Still, Jack Arnold sure would have made a nice movie out of it :-))

  4. those sphincters in their foreheads(blowholes?)must be awfully efficient to keep that knock-out juice from getting in their eyes. and nose. and mouth.

"HA HA HA! she's fainted with TERROR!"-

from that hole in your forehead that's grossed her out!

YESTERDAY WAS A QUATERMASS INFLUENCE, TODAY IS ALIEN WITH THE VICTIMS IN COCOONS.....VERY COOL, IS THAT THE PLAN THIS WEEK S/F STORIES WITH MOVIE TIE-INS?

IT IS PRETTY COOL OF DARK HORSE TO START RELEASING THOSE OLD GOLD KEY COMICS THOUGH I DONT REALLY REMEMBER THE STORIES BEING ALL THAT GOOD OR SCARY, BUT COOL ART AND AWESOME COVERS THOUGH.

If I make a new THOIA tee shirt design I'm totally putting that on the back just for you HP.

    >scientists in pre-code comic books rank just beneath zombies on the intelligence scale.

I think maybe you're still giving them a little more credit than they deserve Todd.

    >Still, Jack Arnold sure would have made a nice movie out of it.

    Or Larry Blamire.

    >hole in your forehead that's grossed her out!

Forget the fact that the creature's buttcrack is showing at the top of page 3. Wonder what's showing on the other side? Maybe that's faint worthy too?! I also like the panel with Mike getting squirted in the face... I wonder if the creature did the same to Kathy after it carried her back to it's secret cocoon love lair?

    >IS THAT THE PLAN THIS WEEK S/F STORIES WITH MOVIE TIE-INS?

Maybe... there's no real plan other than sci-fi posts until New Years Eve. If you see connections with movies though then by all means please point them out.

    >GOLD KEY COMICS THOUGH I DONT REALLY REMEMBER THE STORIES BEING ALL THAT GOOD OR SCARY

I agree... the Gold Key painted covers were gorgeous works of art. It's almost like they knew they had to sell the comic with a beautiful cover because the stories inside were so watered down and mediocre. Same can be said for most of their many other titles. Inside art wasn't bad usually, just not as inspired as it probably could've been with stronger material.

I'm glad a few of you stopped by today, tomorrow we see what's on the slab as we throw the s/f horror back into the lab, don't miss it!
