The Well of Fear!

Some of you might remember our “Stupidest Killers Weekend” back in July. And today we kick off with a similar theme, but suddenly I’ve just decided to call this one a “Damned Duos Weekend” instead. Lordy lordy, it’s so much side splittin’ fun to see two complete idiots get their just rewards in manners such as these... especially when the story comes from a top notch collaborative team like Shuster [Bill Molno under a pseudonym -- Nequram] and Osrin.

From the Sept ’54 issue of Strange Suspense Stories #21

TOMORROW: Joe Kubert!

    Nicely done and very educational.

  4. I like the extreme paranoia and the "no honor among thieves" themes. Despite the pedestrian artwork it's a tight little story.

Is the artist Joe Shuster, of Superman fame? Or is it another Shuster?

  5. I like the hooded phantom in the opening scene.

As for that yellow plaid suit; wow, that guy *deserves* to fall into a well for such a crummy taste in clothing. Guess he made the wrong turn for the golf course? Well at least HE isn't wearing those black and white check socks with it...! ;-P

You gotta love the fact that (at least according to just about every comic story I've ever read from this era) the bad guys back then always wore suits and ties. That's professionalism, is what that is.

    >GCD says Joe Shuster, so who knows? Anyone ever heard of two Shusters?

TOMORROW: Dumb and Dumber (but better fashion sense than today, sort of...)

If this IS Joe Shuster than it must have been only been layed out/roughed by him. I heard he was legally blind at this point in his career. As for the story, good christ these 2 make the crooks from EC's "GANEFS" look like Mensa candidates.

In “The Spawn of M.C. Gaines” (in All in Color for a Dime), Ted White reported that Shuster drew horror comics in the '50s. Since those AiCfaD first appeared in the '60s, I'm inclined to regard them as pretty reliable for this sort of datum.

  11. Thanks for the info Oeconmist! Now you've probably gone and made Pappy feel bad for calling a legally blind Shuster "pedestrian."

It's ok Pappy... we still loves ya!

    TOMORROW: Is now!
