  1. Ooh, good story! Reid's sacrifice was actually touching. And Vale was an entertaining nutcase, until he was eaten.

I do kind of find it amusing that the scientists, after calling Vale a whackjob to his face and shooting all his animals in front of him, tell him, "stop! We're your friends!"

  3. It is difficult for me to imagine that this snake, which I will take for granted grew to immense proportions over several weeks (those proportions change frequently from panel to panel), and which I'll also take for granted shrank back to normal snake size (exactly) in the space of one hour, would have also managed to inflict a similar effect on the morsel of Dr. Reid's corpse.

No, it is far more scientifically likely that when the giant snake shrunk, infused with the blood serum, that his last meal would have remained John Reid-sized. That's what I would have rather seen depicted. Ew.

"And your giant rabbit, too!" is worthy of frequent repeating, I think. Happy October to everybody, and to everybody's giant rabbit too!

  4. Giant monsters' are my favourite monster movies of the fifties , this is a good comic version of a typical story of this genre ,with the last panels almost ripped off King Kong ;Really nice artwork , love the shot of the snake coiled around the Empire State Building ...
    Thanks for Sharing

  5. Not so much horrific as surreal, but an awful lot of fun.

That has got to be the most phallic splash I've ever seen - and then the name of the story "The Big Snake"!

Also loved the unintentional humor of "We are going to kill your six foot rat and your giant rabbit too!"

"The Big Snake"! There's a generic title for ya! The scenes with the snake writhing through NY reminded me of the movie Reptilicus... but this story appeared a dozen years before that film.

I'M SURE EVERYONE WHO COMMENTS TODAY HAD A BIG LAUGH AT THE --AND YOUR GIANT RABBIT TOO-- LINE, TOO FUNNY. VERY COOL STORY, I LIKE HOW YOU CAN SEE PEOPLE FALLING OUT OF THE BIG SNAKES MOUTH IN SOME PANELS LIKE THE SPLASH YET HE NEVER ACTUALLY ATE ANYONE BUT JOHN?

  10. Looking at that splash panel, I'd say "The Big Snake" is a bit of an understatement. That's probably the largest giant monster other than "The Giant Claw."

  11. The new Hallerin palette looks Mother F'in Awesome!!!

I ran the comment I was going to leave re: The Big Snake, and it ranked too high on the Offense-O-Meter. This story asks for it, however, like a wanton sl00t.
