These, My Hands of Doom

Ah, the lengths some people will go for the sake of art, especially their own. It’s Day Two of our look inside the chilling pages of the January 1954 issue of The Beyond #24 (plus a bonus quickie from the same.) For art's sake... enjoy!

  1. These, My Hand of Doom is a great story with loads of pathos at the conclusion and the bonus quickie is interesting, too.

    Nice!

  2. Interesting variation of the "Mida's touch" mythos ,particularly loved page 5 with the panel of Cosmos hitting Satan and the unbordered panel with the two mice ...
The bonus quickie is cool too ; it could be titled Lovecraft in pills ...
    Thanks for sharing !

  5. I'm still all hopped up on lyrics:

"We've turned it all around Celebration
    Words have control
    To take away your heart
    And then your soul

    You'll turn to stone
    Turn to stone
    Just for ever
    You'll turn to stone
    You'll turn to stone
    Turn to stone"

    Dio, Turn to Stone

  6. But what of poor innocent Satan? You can't turn him to stone and leave him that way. I propose he let it happen and then became himself later, laughing as he knew that sooner or later the dope would turn himself into stone.

POOR HUNCHBACK BUT I FEEL MORE SORRY FOR NANNA. KIND OF A CONTINUATION FROM THE STUPIDEST KILLERS WEEKEND THOUGH. LOVE THE WEIRD MONSTER SCULPTURES IN BOTH STORIES. IM INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHO THE ARTIST IS TOO BUT SEE THE GCD LINK HAS NO INFO. SO FAR THIS IS A REALLY GREAT ISSUE OF THE BEYOND.

  8. I really dig today's story- I haven't broken down and sold my soul to the devil yet, but I have felt the frustrations of being a horror artist and having people ask why I don't draw and paint "normal" things!

And just like Kitty, the lyrics thing is hard to get away from. I kept hearing Bob Seger singing "Like a Rock..." as I was reading todays terror filled tale!!

I've never thought much about Ace comics, I guess I just never picked up the right issue. But this has been a terrific week so far, outstanding art and superbly written stories, completely on par with EC even.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  11. I really enjoyed this; there was a little more art to this one, so to speak, than usual. It was a nice touch to show the Devil hoist by his own petard for once. And the sculpture at the end is quite touching.

Given the subject matter, I really tried to use other words than "nice touch" and "touching," but what can you do? :)
