Dust Unto Dust

As promised, here’s another eerie Nostrand tale to warm the casket of your soul. You know, after a week of blood drinking I think we might just hang around these haunted halls of Harvey for another day and visit some of the other crumbly undeads who shamble across the earth… those with a different kind of horrible hunger.

From the May 1954 issue of Chamber of Chills #23

Very nice Wally Wood inspired artwork. The ending was vague and unexplained, but this was actually in the story's favor. The atmosphere was well established and maintained. Altogether a quite surreal story.

I ALWAYS THINK NOSTRAND ART LOOKS MORE LIKE JACK DAVIS THAN WALLY WOOD BUT THEY DO HAVE SIMILARITIES.

    VERY SPOOKY POST TODAY!

  3. I think his style more resembles Davis too, but it's all good.

FYI Heads Up: I've decided that this is the last month for Double Post Saturdays too. Things are just too dead around here on weekends.

I'm also curious: does anyone know what happens when you run out of free blogger space? I've used up nearly 70% of it now so it looks like the end is drawing near... unless of course people would like to donate to the cause to keep The Horrors of it All running as usual.

Brrrr!genuinely creepy,i agree that the unexplained quality helps. On a personal note,i hope everything goes fine Karswell with your blogger space, though we could have a voting game to see which posts are least popular and should be deleted for new space, but i've liked almost all stories.

  5. >voting game to see which posts are least popular and should be deleted for new space

I really want to avoid deleting anything as the point seems to keep everything eternally available online for future reference, especially for those who still have not yet found this blog.

But! I looked it up online and see that additional storage space can be purchased for a yearly fee (starting around $20.) If I ask for donations to help in this storage purchase is there anyone out there willing to help keep this blog alive? Please let me know by contacting me here:

    Thank you,

  6. Great art on this one, but I found the ending lame. But then I've always hated the "he was dead all along!" and "It was all a dream!" stories.

    Still, it LOOKS fantastic! :)

  7. And by the way, I'll say it loud and proud--I'd gladly chip in a few bucks to keep this blog up in its entirety. I hope others feel the same.

But you have to remember, those type of endings hadn't been completely run into the ground at this point in horror history.

NEXT: Someone angry about the guy smoking on page 2.

I do too! And thanks Vicar, I'll do the same for your great blog as well someday.

  10. Karswell,

This is some of my favorite art by the great Howard Nostrand! There are certainly similarities to Wood and Davis but there is never mistaking a Nostrand story! Thanks for posting it!
