Headless Horror!

Here’s a terrific terror tale from the same issue of Chamber of Chills as yesterday's post, featuring insanely brutal panels of extreme violence and bloodshed--- just the way we like it!

From the May 1952 issue of Chamber of Chills #8

I like the big panel on page 6 with the devil head and the ghost girl with her arms raised up in the air. It would make a good tattoo.

  4. On a similar note to the "reporter in a haunted house" idea, there's a BBC movie called Ghostwatch from 1992 about a film crew in a haunted house supposedly filming a REAL haunting taking place. It's not nearly as good or "realistic" as everyone makes it out to be, in fact I don't think it's even remotely believable, but I've read that when it was originally broadcast it had the same affect on audiences as Orson Welles telling the War of the Worlds story over the radio back in 1938. Everyone thought it was real and it caused a minor freak-out. But Ghostwatch is somewhat entertaining to watch now though it is a bit too long and rambling and for the life of me I still can't imagine how anyone seriously fell for any of it.

I don't understand all the love for Ghostwatch either, in fact I found it to be so boring that I fast forwarded through almost all of it.

Back to your post from today, really good story (and scarier than Ghostwatch!) but did someone goof on page 5 in the last panel and color her arms?

  6. Good question, I mean if they were going to color anything at all on that entire page (besides the Ha Ha Hahs and Ahhhs) it should have been the gore pouring out of her neck hole in panel 4. I love how sheer her nightgown is in that panel too, you can totally see her

WOW.This is one of the single greatest stories you've posted, and THE best Harvey story i have ever read, gruesome gory, well set up,beautifully drawn, well paced and packed with suspense,it is reminiscent of Kurtzman's "TELEVISION TERROR" in HOF#17,but still excellent, and despite the gore,i consider it far superior to BLAIR WITCH(zzzz.why kids will sit through that and not a REAL classic like PSYCHO or I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE is beyond me.)if we ever wrap up TOWER,maybe we'll do this as a movie, too bad we couldn't get Kirk Douglas Barbara Steele and Boris Karloff to be in it.

Yeah, guess you'll have to settle for Zac Efron, Vancessa Hudgens and Nicolas Cage. Actually you might be able to get Eddie Murphy, apparently he'll take a role in anything.

I've always felt that EC's Televsion Terror was a ripoff of Ghost Hunt broadcast on the radio show Suspense in 1949. As a publicity stunt, a radio announcer spends the night in a haunted house and broadcasts it all live only to find that the ghosts are real. If I remember it correctly, he even goes crazy at the end, begins giggling manically and either hangs himelf or leaps off a cliff to his death.
