Tomb of Terror #1) comes a ghostly tale of waterlogged love from, quote: "Beyond the depths of where endless agony awaits the evil!”

ReplyDeleteSort of... the putrid corpses are a dead giveaway. Bob Powell did the pencils and inks on Rotting Demons, and also the pencils on The Dead Awaken. Howard Nostrand did the inks on this one though.

ReplyDeleteReally nice Powell job, but sadly, not enough rotting corpses and twisted bodies to draw! Not sure what our hero really did wrong (aside from still trying to live.). Sure, he hid the body, which wasn't great, but he didn't kill her. Yet, the ending seems to mention he'll be in internal torment ... for what?

Sort of a homage to Dreiser's An American Tragedy. I'm not really sure why Sheila would be damned as the worst thing she did was shrink back in horror at the wrong moment. And that was really understandable considering the situation.
ReplyDeleteAs someone pointed out, the protagonist didn't murder Sheila. The worst thing he did was conceal her death. He really was doomed because he had already died. Kind of hard on Jane, as it was kind of hard on the other woman in The American Tragedy.
So all you have to do to put down a western ghost is to cremate his remains? Useful to know. Not so useful in countries where cremation is routine.
