Here we go with the first post of 2020-- who'll be the first to comment? But more importantly-- who'll be the first to get that incredible M. Morte hairdo?! From the December 1952 issue of Weird Mysteries #2.
The plot seemed a little like one of those "Night Gallery" shorties. Thanks for the fun start to 2020. I didn't discern a scar on his forehead though or did I get something wrong?
Just a thought, but if you want to be a professional murderer, maybe not have a super identifiable haircut?
We've seen the two people contracting out on each other but I've never seen it done this way, so bravo to the writer, but the artist needs to brush up on cats! It's drawn different any number of ways, and the last page, panel 5 is the scariest thing I've ever seen in a pre-code comic! That cat face will haunt my dreams!
I like it, tightly paced, some fun visuals and a good look for our killer.
Maybe it's just me, but it kind of looks like Diablo is laughing at the irony in the last page. M.Morte seems to be very loving to his cat which amuses me very much given his ghastly profession. Fun twist though.
Always delighted to see more Mortellaro. I like the stiff figures, the fat look of his thick marks. I think page two here is really dreamy, especially with that really consistent color distribution. Pretty great way to kick off the year.
Now I'm gonna hit the name tag and read more of Tony's stuff back through the archives. Happy New Year!

I really liked this one, a well paced revenge tale. Like JBM said, a Night Gallery tale similar to 'Dead Weight'.
ReplyDeleteThis could have been a one act play during the month of October.
Thanks for posting this gem, Karswell.

I think I'd take a break from licorice if I'd just ordered some, poisoned, to my own place of residence.
