All Burnt Up!

As the winter temps here in the midwest begin to plummet once more, it's time again to turn up the heat with another all-time favorite Charlton tale of justice served extra hot-- a sizzlin' little number from the July 1954 issue of Strange Suspense Stories #19.

  1. Like the story, always liked the "stacked deck" stories where our bad guy was basically irredeemable and really deserved his fate at the end.

Note sure about the panel layout, though, the hard 6 panel layout made the art a little squished and not as exciting of a read, and never "opened up."

I like the trunk just CHUCK full of guns! I like to imagine Owl actually robbed the bank carrying every one of those!

BTW this issue has a great cover.

  2. Thank you Mr.K. for this horror of a different kind/kid. I like page three panel four especially and the final panel too. Thanks.

  3. Basically a “Monster vs. Monster” story. Hardened criminal vs. young sociopath. I found the ending a bit chilling. Today he’s the kid who builds an IUD from YouTube videos or buys guns online to shoot up his school.

  4. Totally. This is one chilling budding psychopath story, and, reading between mom's flustered lines, I like to assume the boy is Blenheim's own kid, and therefore comes by his ASPD honestly.

I dug the art, especially the last two pages. This was a nice, brisk story that didn't feel abbreviated to fit its trim profile. Also, the cover of this ish is probably my all time favorite single-image piece by Ditko.

  5. "Mr.Owl, how many licks does it take to set you on fire with my handmade flamethrower? Let's find out!"
