Deadline / Beware of the Chair!

It's a perfect day for a double execution, as we wrap-up our Stan Lee Tribute Fest of 2018 with a double header of doom! Stan penned the first story, with art by John Romita, while our second tale is a request fulfillment for more Joe Sinnott! Always glad to oblige that request. Both stories are from the June 1953 issue of Men's Adventures #22, highlighted with a spectacularly spooky cover by Bill Everett! Hope everyone enjoyed this 2 month stretch of precode Atlas horror classics, --and don't forget to give another toast to the one who made it all possible! RIP to The Man.

Monkey Face!

Sometimes 'ol sure smilin' Stan could be a real barrel of silly monkeys, as evidenced by this quickie classic from the August 1953 issue of Astonishing #26, story art by Manny Stallman (cover by Russ Heath.)

The Planet of Living Death

Another one from the September 1953 issue of Menace #7, and this time Stan teamed up terrifically with Russ Heath for a sci-fi shocker to shiver your spines from beyond the screaming stars! How great is the design of those aliens? I totally love the first panel on the last page... it's like Collin's having a chit chat with the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Fresh Out of Flesh!

Sometimes it's hard to believe that I've been chuggin' this blog along since 2007, and as we are sure to finally reach 2,000 posts sometime in the upcoming year, the inevitable question I occasionally get asked is, "When does THOIA finally run fresh out of stories to post?" and to be honest, I really have no answer for that question. It seems that every time I turn to my collection I discover more gems that I have somehow overlooked in the past. But I do know of someone who is seriously fresh out of flesh-- AIEEEEEE! --as we continue chugging' along on our Stan Lee Tribute Fest! From the Sept. '53 issue of Menace #7, artwork by Syd Shores!

A Vampire is Born

THOIA's Stan Lee Tribute Fest continues with another weird one penned by The Man, this time from the June 1953 issue of Menace #4, and highlighted with really outstanding, atmospheric art by Fred Kida. Younger readers may find the ending to indeed be maddening, that is, if you are part of the historically challenged generation... so when you do get to the final panel, just insert your own current *CHOKE!* candidate's face for the modern day, *UGH!* updated version. *GAG!*

Poor Mister Watkins

Well, despite what I said in our last story post, it doesn't seem right to end our Atlas Fest just yet. Unless you've been living on a desert island for the last few days, you have no doubt heard the sad news of Stan Lee's passing at the age of 95. So around here that means we're going to extend this Atlas tribute for the rest of November, and in particular we will be looking at sensationally spooky stories scripted by super Stan himself. Think of it as an early xmas present from Mr. Karswell, and The Man himself. Only gone a few days, and already missed is the understatement of the year.

Man Who Wasn't / Bored to Death

It's been an uncanny month and a half of posts, but today's double whammy of ultra bored, fog bound, Men of Meh marks the end of our Atlas Fest 2018, because starting with our next post we will get back to a more varied publisher mix. I do hope everyone enjoyed the uncanniness! Okay, our first story is from the October 1954 issue of Uncanny Tales #25, with art by John Tartaglione (now everyone knows where I got the original image for the first run of THOIA tee-shirts back in the day!) --and followed by a dynamite Doug Wildey chiller from the June 1954 issue of Uncanny Tales #21.
