We got a little bit busy around here this month, many apologies for the lack of updates-- but why don't we seal up the so long sucker tomb on April 2016 with a story from the June 1952 issue of The Thing #3, (also includes the inside front cover "Weird Wonders" bonus page), as well as deliver a promise (fingers crossed) to post a few more tales from this pricey Thing series in May!
STAY TOMBED!!!
I kind of love that panel where the wife freaks out and thinks there's a vampire in the crypt, but the police chief just calmly points out that it's one of the smugglers disguised as the vampire. As if this was just perfectly normal shenanigans going on in Rumania. (a weird misspelling perhaps?)
ReplyDeleteYeah, that is a pretty great panel. I'm into the panel on the bottom left of page 3... what's the most frightening pose I can draw a vampire in? Hmmmm, I know-- evilly kneeling!
ReplyDeleteThe art on this is really interesting, it looks a lot like a guy that did 40s super hero stuff (it's kind of stiff and a bit amateurish) but combines it with a bit more 50s type art.
ReplyDeleteThe couple that bought the castle have almost nothing to do with the story. They could be replaced with a towns person or the police investigating the castle for some reason.
I like this vampire. I like how dapper he is, and I appreciate his lifestyle of killing and then returning to his collection of vampire cuties and laughing the night away. Quite the life!
That kneeling panel really charmed me too. I kind of wish the whole vampire attack--from evil kneel to the groovy bridal sock-hop halfway through page four--was contained on one priceless art board. I love that AAAGGHHH! panel, where Duresqu looks like Zangra's ventriloquist dummy. That'll learn ya, Charlie.
ReplyDeleteHaha, great comments, thanks dudes-- more from this THING issue coming up next!
ReplyDeleteThank's for another great vampire story.
