The Witch of Tarlo

Ending 2015 on a witchy note with a 10-page Sheldon Moldoff doozy from the February 1953 issue of  This Magazine is Haunted #9. I sincerely hope everyone enjoyed this year of posts, as well as all of the IDW / Yoe Books projects your humble host has been involved with. Lots more precode horrors on the way (in web and print form for 2016), you know the routine-- STAY TOMBED!

  2. Fun tale, This Magazine is Haunted usually had the pretty good adventure/horror tales. The artist really lifted from Ghastly, though. Page 4, panel 1 is a decent enough version of the Old Witch. Last page, panel 2 got a lot of Ghastly in there, too, not just the witch but in the face of the husband.

The witch learned what all villains eventually learn -- stop monologuing, and stop playing with your victims. Kill them immediately!

Happy New Year, Karswell, and thanks for all the horror goodness (badness.)

  3. Dang, the likeness to The Old Witch is ridiculous, amazing they didn't get sued for it. There was also a CK-lookalike in "Search for Evil", any Vaultkeeper ripoffs out there as well?

  4. I liked how the colorist used so many different colors in this story, it added an almost dream like quality to this tale.

A wild and fun tale, even if there was a whole lot of swiping going on.

  5. As much as I like weird stories that go off into strange areas (like any given thing by Lovecraft), there's also something great about a straightforward "wicked witch" story set in a rural area.

  6. Happy New Year! I love all the orange in this one. Don't see much orange in these four-color comics, and that's just too darn bad.

  7. The work that you have to post these tales is remarkable. This is a great way of keeping alive these comics of that golden age! Congratulations and in 2016 I will be here to appreciate more.
