Headless Horror!
There's a new group on Facebook devoted entirely to HORROR COMICS: 1950's and BEYOND, take a moment and click the link to join up, you'll be glad you did! To celebrate, THOIA has an encore presentation of the wonderfully atmospheric and gorily impaling Abe Simon illustrated Harvey classic-- HEADLESS HORROR from the May 1952 issue of Chamber of Chills #8.
Wow -- a found footage comic! That's something I don't think I've seen before in a 50s book. Effective, atmospheric, and the blue B&W wash for the film really adds a lot of menace and other-world feel to the proceedings.
ReplyDeleteIt wraps up a bit predictably but that's always been the ending to most ghost stories and there's really not much to be snarky about here.
Nice one. One of the best of your entire blog, for sure, a real gem.
If I had read this as a kid, it would've definitely led to a few nightmares!
ReplyDeleteThat is excellent, and I haven't seen this before. As always, thank you. Horror comics were highly inspirational to me as a child and it has continued to this day, so finding something new is always a treat.

ReplyDeleteOn page three bottom right corner, the lord is driving the car and the srteering wheel is on the right which is hiw cars in England are set up, the artist got that detail right that some artists would miss.
Sorry for the bad spelling, it ain't easy typing on a smartphone.
DeleteAnother detail was the six-pack the old gentleman enjoys. Lords aren't known for the their physical condition.
