Kill, My Minions of Death!

This wild, and very colorful severed hand story by Lou Cameron was originally presented in the September 1953 issue of Baffling Mysteries #17 --but it can also now be found in the December 2012 issue of Haunted Horror #2, available this week at comic shops everywhere! And get a free sneak peek at another Ace story from the new HH2 issue over at Bloody Disgusting by clicking HERE!

  2. Adore that story.
    Brilliant choice.
Love that "Mr. Karswell" character as well, but couldn't he be "Dr. Karswell".
    Get a-head, get a diploma!

  3. I love this story as it has all the hallmarks of a great pre-code horror piece. An incredibly silly plan (why not re-animated the entire body? If the hands could fly, you should be able to make the entire body fly, and that'd be a bit more terrifying and useful.)

It has a weakness that ties up the plot (having to look at his victim) while completely ignoring how that initial weakness makes the power not that useful.

But none of that matters, I over analyze everything and you still get carried away with the lunacy and imagery of the whole thing.

BTW, Kars, have you been working out? Those are some muscular legs! :)

  4. This is definitely my pick for best page one in (maybe) all of precode horror. Holy crap that's awesome. The square motif, the parallel lines, the lettering--hell, even the lazy expedient of those imprecise color fields peeking through the chintzy black pass adds a little something.

  5. It definitely doesn't get much better than Lou Cameron horror from ACE! Thanks for the comments, friends!

  6. Lou Cameron was a master. His art seems decades newer than its real vintage. Thanks!
