Poison-Quill at Midnight!

There's one story left to tell from the August 1954 issue of Tales of Horror #12, and here it is, a piercing little yarn about a kooky killer quill! The rest of this great issue can be found in the THOIA Archive: "Welcome to My School", "Fate of Alberto", and "The Pallbearers." And after the post, get a sneak peek at the new Yoe Banes horror project coming this fall from IDW! Full-color, precode horror reprints in an affordable, monthly comic book package! (Just don't get too comfy with the "Scary" title, cuz we've already changed it.) 1. The baron wanted to inflict "the most painful death in the world on his worst enemy," but the king just seemed to get a death quill to the neck. Our friend the baron, however, burned to death in a blazing inferno; perhaps he was his own worst enemy?

The servant getting crushed by falling cornice is something I fear walking around earthquake-prone downtown San Francisco each day. Brutal.

Man, the new SCARY comic is excellent news!!!! There's not much detail in the ad. I assume there will be no repeated material from the other hardcover collections (Powell, Zombies, etc.)? Will this be a monthly thing?
I think it's an exciting development and I'm thrilled to see the selection process will be in good hands.

    Thanks Karswell!

  4. The colorist here really hurts the artwork. Even as a kid, I bemoaned obviously inappropriate color choices. That bright red cornice would've made me groan even then! lol

  5. I patiently await more information on "scary", I'll be on board for that one, not only for the content but supporting small press comics is something that's very important.

Kars, were you involved in the cover choice? Being in a band that has a lot of Misfits influence that cover seems the obvious choice :)

  6. Anything 1950s is cool to me, honestly. However, I'm generally into scary things, yet this vintage horror comic seems pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
