I first posted this great Lin Streeter zombie tale from the Dec. 1953 issue of Advs into the Unknown #50, way back in August of 2007, when THOIA was merely a month old. This re-post presentation comes full circle with the release of IDW / Yoe Book's release of ZOMBIES by me and Craig Yoe on May 22nd, and our book contains this terrific tale too, (as well as many others.) And hey, if you haven't viewed the ZOMBIES book preview clip yet on youtube, then click HERE!
WOW! A 1950's horror comic classic masterpiece! One of the greatest of all classic-style zombie tales, tying with Reflection of Death. Beautiful and perfect in every way. I can't believe this is obscure -- it is seminal. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about this tale is that it is truly scary; you can really imagine the terror of the fate of being an endless slave. Even a real slave, as terrible as that is, can eventually die and, in a way, be free.
ReplyDeleteYou tent revival hell fire preachers could learn a thing from this! Their stock and trade was fear, but the pictures they always formed were otherworldly and un-relatable, this is within our known world.
That said, it still takes me right out when the narrator tells us that he is "a thing without a brain". He's a thing without will, not without a brain! He is using it to think!
Yours is one of my favorite blogs .... I really enjoy these old horror comics and often praise "the Horrors of It All" to the followers of my blog....
