The Swamp Horror

From the contents page of the May 1953 issue of Beware Vol. 1 #15, (story by Richard Kahn and drawings by Harry Harrison): "What was this nameless, dreadful creature that Prof. Crandall unearthed from the murky slime? It devoured all human beings who ventured into the territory of doom!" Yes, it's a squishy tale of soggy science, and be sure to cover your ears when the bunny goes CRUNCH! YAAAAH!

  1. WOAH! I could kinda go with the flow on this one, but when it started TALKING to him the story went off the rails.

I always like a blob story. Sure, this one does go off the rails and makes some big leaps, but I liked the angle of him becoming part of the blob collective and then fighting to save somebody while part of the blob. I found it disturbing. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but the trees in the first page look like Wood. Maybe this artist was inspired by him?

It's funny that scietists are currently attempting to develop soldier cells that seek out and kill cancer cells.

I like the way that the hero is more of a "misguided" than a "mad" scientist; (i.e. was trying to help people rather than the "THOSE FOOLS AT THE UNIVERSITY THOUGHT I WAS MAD, MAD, MAD!" cliche!

Just one question: didn't anyone notice the good Dcctor was missing before this? Wasn't this guy getting supplies in or samples out? And why only 3 guys? If this man was working for *me* on something *this important; I'd have: the parish (what they call a county in Louisiana)sheriff and his deputies, the State Police, the National Guard (if I could get them) and as many Cajuns and locals of any other ethnic/racial background as would take the University's/Academy's/Institute's/ ect money out looking for the guy*
