Happy Thanksgiving 2011 friends, and as you prepare to gorge yourself on the usual trimmings and holiday trappings today, take a moment to sink your teeth into another terrible tale from the November 1954 issue of Beware #12. This tainted turkey is sure to tantilize your trembling tastebuds with an--
The final panel is very "Little Shop of Horrors"-ish. (Both this and the film may be calling back to John Colliers' "Green Thoughts".)
ReplyDeleteBoy, Trent's a bit slow on the uptake, eh? "Boy it sure is mysterious the way food and people keep vanishing around my giant carnivorous plant that I keep out in the open. I wonder what could have happened?" Yeah, that's a real question for the ages, Doctor.
ReplyDelete@ Brandi: indeed! A few of the details are very much in line with the Collier classic, especially the ending with the new plant growths resembling the victims.
ReplyDeleteHm. I wonder what this guys pollinators look like? A where's the stuffed turkey blossom, you ask? I guess since that luncheon fowl was already headless, it doesn't get to be a bud. Interesting ramifications there.
ReplyDeleteI like how much this monster looks like a Brussels sprout. I always knew those things were evil. Happy Thanksgiving, Karswell.
Dr. Trent's not the sharpest tool in the shed, is he?
ReplyDeleteLoathsomely bad art plus clueless script equals pure entertainment!
I think the way Dr. Trent is portrayed as not being completely evil makes this story a little different from the norm. He actually wanted to apologize for punching his partner (who did violently grab him; I probably would have done the same).
ReplyDeleteBut I agree with others about his lack of perception. Then again, there wouldn't be so many victims in horror if it weren't for complete cluelessness.
Great to see the blog still going strong, Karswell! Happy Thanksgiving.
a plant sprouting human heads is a creepy idea no matter what.
ReplyDeletelove the psychedelic colors
ReplyDeleteGoing strong indeed, "The Blog That Wouldn't Die", they call it. Even though I died a long time ago...
ReplyDeleteMore from Beware coming up!
