Mask of Medusa
Somehow I never got around to this eerie Pete Morisi tale from the September 1953 issue of Weird Terror #7, the rest of the issue can be found in the THOIA Archives: Turnabout, Evil Ones, and Concrete Coffin, (the last two stories are both by Don Heck, +2 page text story art.) Apropos of nothing, I like Blogger's new image display method. Much nicer!
ReplyDeleteI liked the thick brush work and ballsy coloring going on in this story. Here's one I'd like to see made into a movie. It's the perfect episodic slasher-type plot, but with a kickass and fairly unique heavy. Very cinematic. And how refreshing--almost anti-cliché, even--that not one person ever actually wears the Medusa mask.

Too small to read or to appreciate the art. Don't care for the new format. Really a shame, since your collection is A+.

If your browser has the capability for tabbed browsing, all you have to do is right click on the thumbnails in the post (or command click for a Mac), and open these pages in new tabs just the way you are used to seeing them. Or, as Karswell himself has pointed out, you can click on the tiny white URL (to the lower left of the picture in the viewer) and open each page larger like that, too.
ReplyDeleteThis may seem awkward at first, but take it from me, you'll get used to it. I've been reading these stories in tabs for years now. When this new viewer ap dropped, I didn't even notice it till other people started complaining.

no man, the new logo looks great! nice typeface, great silhouette, excellent design. But the old logo was sooo cool it's sad to see it go. And the one before that! Any chance of doing a post of all the old THOIA logos? Seeing that you post great comics of times gone by, why not post your past logos?

ReplyDeleteSorry; but a big resoundi8ng "NO" for me on the new format; as I *nearly always* have to make these pages bigger to read them or see some detail or something*! Nice story; though; but I couln't read the Gorey story at all! (Have the same problem with TV football game scores these days to; at least the ones they show during the game; well, sometimes the scores on the news, too!)

Anonymous: You can still open pages exactly as you always have. Just right click the image and click "Open link in New Window." This option is exactly as it's always been, offering pages full size if that's your preference.

What the ... horrors?
ReplyDeleteI just did a search for Marty Elkin and drew up a story and clicked and BOOM -- it was back to the old format for images!
Then I went back to the current story and clicked on an image and BOOM -- the image came up classic (love it style)! I can live with the new thing, but it is not friendly to small monitors, and SUCKS for iPad. So, what's going on? Lots of complaints?
Has anybody else experienced this? Try it.
By the way, get an iPad, read comic pages on it in bed with the lights off, and you will fall in love with comics all over again like you did when you were a kid!

I'm a bit suprised that Mykal (or oeconomist) didn't mention that the newer version of this great story last posted last year as 'Mask of Horror'-
