Over the years we've posted a few stories from the wild 'n weird June 1952 issue of
Strange Terrors #1: "Vampires Dance at Dusk" and
"The Ghost of Karloff Castle" and guess what? Yep, here's another! So whether it's actually zombies marching by moonlight, or
"zoombies" as the cover typo hilariously states, one thing is certain: the living dead don't necessarily have to be tearing into a skull and munching on a brain to be creepy.
Wow thanks for the tip on "City of the Living Dead" - my all-time fav Fulci. The opening sequence of the priest wandering the graveyard is the most beautiful thing in the world. And in Blu-ray!
ReplyDeleteRoger is so slow-moving as to deserve a beating for that alone. But perhaps from his perspective the zombies were zoombies.
ReplyDeleteBoy, that's some splash panel... the zombie looks like an undead debt collector! No wonder Sheila is spooked.
ReplyDeleteSome incredibly jarring and goofy storytelling here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on "City of the Living Dead!" One of the two movies I had to walk out on as a kid for fear of puking (the girl vomiting her organs put me over the edge). I was nine or ten years old...what was my dad thinking?! Well, I'm now thankful for his somewhat questionable judgment. I got to see so many gory classics on the big screen!
ReplyDeleteSpent years searching for this flick on DVD because the American release title way back when I saw it was "Gates of Hell."
Now I know what to request for my birthday!
Come now, everyone knows that zoombies are just regularly zombies on Red Bull: they can outrun you.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

I like that Yvonne is focused elsewhere the entire story, and the other characters never really acknowledge it.
ReplyDeletenothing like an ex showing up in the middle of your own personal zombie crisis!...
ReplyDelete"Just scratched and bruised... and scared."
ReplyDeleteThis is a good issue, hope you eventually post all of it!
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone enjoyed this post, I will also try to give more news updates in the future on other horror related stuff like movies etc. Like we used to do.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else having trouble with blogger lately? I have a post ready to go but can't seem to get anything to work?!
Hmmm, not the lawyer, but the law clerk. What do you call it when the "who" in a "whodunit" is a character that was never introduced or even mentioned until the end?
ReplyDeletePoor Yvonne. She bemoaned that,
ReplyDelete"There is much that Roger forgot."
Looks like we had the makings of a regular feature there that was just left to lie flat.
Oh, well... Zoombies rule!
I love this: "The chateau and lands should be worth about fifty thousand dollars if zombies haven't gained a foothold on the property." One imagines the real estate appraiser making a note of that--"Mr. D'Orsay, I'm sorry, but do you realize you have a zombie infestation here? Anyone who buys this house is going to have to do considerable work to hire an exterminator and repair the damage they've already caused--you don't happen have a homeowner's policy that covers zombie infestation, do you? The good news is, I didn't see any termite damage. But you definitely have a zombie problem. Oh, and some dry rot on the northeast corner."
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS DEFINITELY A SOLID ISSUE FULL OF COOL AND MEMORABLE STORYS, LOOKING FORWRD TO MORE!
