The final tale in our Ace Fest, and appropriately enough the finale tale to spend your own Walpurgis Nacht celebration with this evening. Burn the midnight fires friends, THOIA thanks you all again with our sincerest set of horns for your endless dedication and support. From the July 1951 issue of The Beyond #5
Yet another Mike sekowsky story.
ReplyDeletePoor Karl. Even as a werewolf, he was more geek than wolf.
ReplyDeleteAce Comics taught me not to feel sorry for the less fortunate because they are in league with Satan. Always. Thanks, Ace Comics!
Love the German names they use: "Grausam" means "gruesome" and "Zwiebelbart" means "onionbeard".
ReplyDeleteThanks for the story!
Wow, this one would have made a PERFECT Paul Naschy movie! It's all there--witches, wax museum, a werewolf, and unrequited love! Karl is almost Waldemar Daninsky in ink!
ReplyDeleteI love the full-on shot of the werewolf running at the bottom of pg. 6--almost Kirby-esque.
I can't tell for sure, but did Bertha get away free? Or did Karl kill her before he was cut down? The way she was jerking poor Karl around, it would seem strange if she got away without tasting his furry vengeance. ;)
I agree with the Vicar. This could have been taken out of an issue of Naschy Comics circa 1971.
ReplyDeleteBertha got away, Vicar. You can see her back at the bottom of the second last frame. The fucking bitch.
Your blog is awesome. An endless feast of vintage horror.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Pepe
"The fucking bitch."
ReplyDeleteHaha, my thoughts exactly! And the German names cracked me up, too. I'm wondering if the author even knew their meaning or if he simply flipped through a German dictionary and selected words at random.
Anyway, thanks a lot for this Walpurgisnacht treat, Karswell! I'll be sure to search the sky for weird gals on flying goats and brooms tonight…
MAN THIS WAS AN AWESOME BATCH OF ACE STORIES, THEY MIGHT BE MY NEW FAVORITE PRE CODE PUBLISHER........THANKS AGAIN AND HAPPY WALPURGIS!
ReplyDeleteI kept hearing Wagner thoughout. - Mykal
ReplyDeleteWho knew going to the witches sabbath (no apostrophe) was so convenient? We ought to go some time and ask if their refrigerator is running.
ReplyDeleteBonne FĂȘte, Monsieur Banes
