Part 3 in our look at the origins of zombie hero Simon Garth from the 1973 debut issue of Tales of the Zombie #1. As the cover blurb on later issues from this series states, "He lives! He strikes! No grave can hold him!" and for a total of 10 brutal issues he proved just that, in what is easily one of the better and strangely underrated Marvel Magazine series of the early 70's. Got lots more black and white horror coming up too, as I've decided to just finish out the month of February sans color.
This is a really good story! I can't wait to read the rest of this!
ReplyDeleteOops! Sorry Liz, while the rest of February will be devoted to more Tales from the Zombie issues, they won't be tales about Simon Garth, instead I'll be featuring other select stories about the living dead, and voodoo/witchcraft etc... I'm certain you will still enjoy them! Thanks for commenting.
ReplyDeleteI DEFINITELY NEED TO GET THE ESSENTIAL TALES OF THE ZOMBIE TRADE NOW FOR SURE! I WAS LOOKING AT IT ON AMAZON AND ITS AFFORDABLE AND HAS ALL 10 ISSUES PLUS A COUPLE MORE APPEARENCES FROM DRACULA LIVES. SOLD!!!
ReplyDeleteStory by Steve "Howard The Duck" Gerber?! Oh Hell Yeah, I'm gonna enjoy reading the rest of this! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGood stuff! For me, these Marvel magazines were my intro into horror comics (alongside Creepy, of course). I remember reading them in the supermarket as a kid, and being amazed at the gore and nudity...but also being impressed by the great stories
ReplyDeleteThanks again Karswell, always amazing treasures to be found here.
ReplyDeleteSeems like his daughter constantly manages to get people killed thrugh needlessly stupid behaviour.
ReplyDelete>needlessly stupid behaviour.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but without needless stupid behaviour we wouldn't have plots for most of the horror movies and comics that we all love so much. I'm just joking of course (sort of.)
FYI: You early birds can sleep in on Friday, the next post won't be up until sometime in the afternoon. Thanks again for the comments, keep 'em coming... and of course if you have any thoughts or suggestion about anything you'd like to see in March just drop me a line. Stay Creepy!
Yup, these are great. I will also have to pick up the Essential Tales of the Zombie PB from Marvel. Think I'll head out to the comic shop now.
