Another chilly blast of winter weirdness for you today from the August 1952 issue of Beware #11 , art by Harry Harrison. There is one, maybe even two other stories very similar to this one in the THOIA Archives, but I'll be damned if I can remember what they are (I really should tag posts shouldn't I?) If anyone finds or remembers them please paste the link/s in the comments.
Man, what a Cronenbergian tale of body horror! I admit to being a little creeped out by the rising boil/head on pg 4--and also strangely reminded of ARMY OF DARKNESS. :)
ReplyDeletepg1 - Gentlemen, START YOUR PONIES!
pg3 - Love the way the curse follows him...nicely done.
pg 7 - But is it, doctor? IS IT?
Great, wild stuff, Karswell! This would be a great Tales from the Crypt episode or short film, practical effects only of course. Now I'm off to get some salve for this nagging itch on my butt...
Check out a 70's movie called The Manitou sometime Vicar... you might see something similar to this story. Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteCreepy. :-\
ReplyDeleteThink I've heard of "The Manitou," but haven't seen it.
ReplyDeletea GOOD Un'.
ReplyDeleteOH crap, this was a scary one. and my leg itches...
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty close adaptation of Edward Lucas White's short story Lukundoo, written in 1927. It's in a lot of horror anthologies and it's one of my favorite old pulp horror stories. Here's a link to a free pdf of it: http://www.horrormasters.com/Text/a1499.pdf
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
YIKES! that's dementedly horrifying!
ReplyDeleteTHAT WAS PROBABLY THE WEIRDEST STORY I HAVE READ HERE AT THOIA.. BUT I DO REMEMBER ONE YOU POSTED ABOUT A HUNTER CURSED BY TINY HEADS THAT BIT HIM TO DEATH. I AM PRETTY SURE YOU POSTED IT ANYWAY.
ReplyDeleteGroucho narrator:

Rimshot.
Karswell: Talk about body horror! This is one of the creepiest posts I've seen yet from THOIA! The part where the little man grows out of the leg/knee gave me the real deal whim whams! Man, I gave a shudder like Homer Simpson imagining a life without Duff Beer. -- Mykal
ReplyDeleteKriswell if you of the mind to accept it I have presented you with an award I designed myself in recognition of all your hard work here. Good job

What a treat, I totally forgot about this one, I haven't had a copy in years. How I could forget such a messed up masterpiece is beyond me! Thanks for posting it!
ReplyDelete>Edward Lucas White's short story Lukundoo
ReplyDeleteThanks 8th Ray, will definitely check it out!

I was thinking though of another story, which is still hiding somewhere in the archive. I think. Or maybe I just haven't posted it yet?!
>I have presented you with an award
Thank you Willy, I love getting horror awards!
And thanks to all the comments, screams, rimshots, etc... Up Next: A cool one from the Strange Fantasy files!
