As you have seen here at THOIA over the years, Superior Comics were notorious for their exceptionally grim stories that possessed a lurid, black hearted spirit so mean and ugly that sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or scream (or both) at the insanity you've just read. Still, fused within the slick 'n scuzzy Iger Shop assembly line artwork is a fun sort of manic energy that alot of other lesser pre-code publishers were never able to invoke... today's violent tale from the July '54 issue of Mysteries Weird and Strange #8 is yet another diabolical, prime example.
Oy vay! This is why I love Iger Shop!!
ReplyDeleteHo-ho-hee-hee!
Outstanding!
I do wish the man had not snuffed himself, though.
OVERALL PRETTY BRUTAL, PAGE 3 YOU NOT ONLY GET A CORPSE SHOVED INTO A FURNACE BUT ALSO A SUICIDE. AND I AGREE THE MAD LAUGHTER IN THESE STORYS IS ALWAYS A PLUS IN MY BOOK.......... WHAT A GREAT ENDING.
ReplyDeleteHail Zechariah Sitchin! :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, now to the Vintage Ad: Spektoscope! England's need for dollars makes this (low price - save $7.00 [which in the late '50s/early '60s was something of a sum]) possible! England's NEED for dollars. Weird. I'll bet our friends "across the pond" would have liked to know they NEEDED our dollars back then. I wonder how many people bought a pair, lol. And what? No "X-Ray Vision" bonus feature? :-p Wouldn't Benjamin Franklin have been amused?
lol! awesome story
