Due to unforseen circumstances earlier in the week I've decided to extend the DRAW ME CONTEST entry date (originally set for midnight tonight) to Sunday, Oct. 25th at midnight, so you still have a few more days to get your artwork in to me. I also want to thank everyone who has entered so far because there are some really fabulous submissions! It's gonna be a tough vote for sure! For more info check "The Gypsy's Curse" post from last Thursday.

"Tod, have you been hanging around that Mara girl again?"
ReplyDeleteCool story, nice art. I thought the story was going to go another way early on, but the burned witch who may not be a witch and the girl who might have been a witch(who turned into a fox) never reappeared...did they?
Interesting panel continuity on some of the pages. The artist did a nice job drawing Mara (sweet keester, seester), who looks almost cat-like in a couple of panels. Why are the sexy ones always the deadly ones, Karswell?
Also, it's funny how keen they are to buy the nooses. "Mini witch nooses? On SALE?? Awesome!!"
I AGREE WITH APOCOLYTE, AN ODDBALL STORY BUT STILL COOL. I HAD A PROBLEM FOLLOWING THE PANELS TOO ON A COUPLE PAGES BUT IT WAS ALL TOO WEIRD NOT TO LIKE. THE OTHER STORIES IN THIS ISSUE SOUND LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO BE FUN TOO FROM THE GCD ENTRY.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS AGAIN AND I HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER!
i know how Tod feels- everytime i check out a beautiful brunette i shout, "YES IT IS TRUE! YOU ARE DEATH!", too. but i confuse sex with death a lot...
ReplyDeletealso, this isn't the first time i've seen one of these tales shoehorning skulls into the corner of panels for effect- i love it! when you start seeing skulls out of the corner of your eye, you know you've had it!...
"Harry, I'm panicky now. Yes? Yours is larger too?"
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting theme you've crafted for us this week, Karswell. Inadequacy concerns, overcompensation, terminal shortcomings. Last time it was the gathering of telescopic foreskins, and today it's rampant control issues.
I really liked the loosey-goosey art here, both the weirdo paneling and the groovy sketchy texturing of all the negative spaces. The two-point-five frames right to left at the bottom of page five are just dynamite, especially since they don't read in any narrative order that way. Because of this sort of graphic helter-skelter, the amateurish lettering really adds zeal to the whole headlong mess instead of detracting irritatingly like it does in some Lichtenstein pieces.
Thanks, man.
What Mr. Cavin said.
ReplyDeleteI think.
So "Karen" reappeared, huh? Wow, this story was rife with errors of all kinds.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of another story you posted about a year or so ago, the title of which escapes me -- same deal where two guys know a hot chick who turns out to be death. Anyone else recall this?
Mara is a BABE !!!!
ReplyDeleteTamfos = yeah, it's a Bill Everett story...
ReplyDelete...probably more than one!
ReplyDeleteKarswell: I really liked this story and really liked the way it built tension at an even pace. When will these comic protaganists learn? Icy lips is not good. Not good at all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, loved the ad. I am so there for "Black Magic" with its "peek-a-boo magic lace." Quite different than the ads for sneezing powder and trick soap, eh? -- Mykal
Thanks for the comments on this one, as mentioned I have a couple more stories from this issue for you this week and then it's off to the Halloween Hootenanny.
ReplyDeleteAlso coming: The entries for our second DRAW ME CONTEST! Wait'll you see what THOIA readers came up with this time-- prepare to be impressed! So put on your best voting clothes, it's all coming later today!
"Of course later Karen was found."
ReplyDeleteEr... who's Karen?
