I thought we’d have a little fun today for our Silver Age Flash Forward and check in with Moe, Larry, and Curley-Joe, (as well as The Little Monsters), with a couple silly stories from the July 1965 issue of The Three Stooges #24. Yes, today THOIA is rated G!

That was a nice bedtime story. There's this stereotype that all women hate the Three Stooges. So either I'm not a woman, or those weren't the Three Stooges!
ReplyDeleteActually it was my mother that first took me to see an old Three Stooges and Marx Brothers double feature. Maybe she isn't a woman either!
Karswell: I loved the second story and thanks for the lighter side. I love that bigfoot style, and Western Publishing was always the best for this great style. "Oh, my beautiful, dank floors." The characters here seem so vibrant in their gestures and movement.
ReplyDeleteBTY, the "Frank Bunk" reference on page 2 is to a naturalist and animal collector from the 30s and 40s named Frank Buck, who became famous for his writings and movies on the subject of wild and dangerous animals. He was sort of the Crocodile Hunter of his day (or the Marlin Perkins of his day, depending on your generation). – Mykal

When I saw this silly Stooges monster fun, I remembered how disappointed I am that Sean Penn and Jim Carrey dropped out of the Farrelly Bros. Three Stooges movie. DAMN that would have been incredible.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this little breather, Kars. I've always liked Little Monsters, but was surprised at the quality of the art in the Stooges strip. That first panel on the third page is remarkable! A surprising sense of space and depth for a comic so simply drawn. Nice.
