Death from the Tomb

It’s time for “Dig That Crazy Mummy Monday” as we shamble forth from the catacombs with a tale from the November 1954 issue of Web of Evil #20. I love the slick art from this series, and Eerie Publication fans might remember this one in particular as it was later reprinted, as well as re-made, a few times in the 70’s in Horror Tales (detailed issue info at GCD.)

>ANYONE DRAW BOB HOPE YET TODAY?

Not a bad idea ALL CAPS, so let's make it a contest, any of you artists out there interested in a THOIA tee shirt? Draw a picture of Bob Hope--- but give him the THOIA twist, make him a zombie, make him a werewolf, make him a sandwich! Whatever you want, best illustration gets a shirt and some other assorted horror junk. You have until Friday. All submissions should be emailed directly to me at karswell@hotmail.com, I'll post all the entries on THOIA this weekend so everyone can vote on the best one. Sound like fun?

    How fortunate that the Aztecs treated their wrappings with an asbestos-like substance! Of course it doesn't do him a damn bit of good when he's locked in the tomb--but a fine coincidence nonetheless!

    Carlson has a pretty goofy face as a mummy! And I got a laugh from the (misleading) splash panel, seeing him hot-foot it outta there at the sight of the mummy!

    When it comes to the Web of Evil series, 9 times out of 10 the horror almost NEVER turns out to be supernatural... but at least it didn't end on a happy note, and as Lily and JP noted, you can't beat that goofy faced asbestos protected mummy with his loose wraps somehow blowing around!

    Good to see The Oeconomist return too! Where ya been?

    Oh, I wish I had Photoshop or something to help me create something cool. I can't draw! But guess what--I'm going to try it anyway! Because it will help me relax. Anything where I don't desire good reviews is relaxing to me.

    That is awesome idea for a contest. I'm not going to enter because I'm lucky enough to have a THOIA tee on the way, but I hope you post the entries! I'd sure like to see them.
