After Death!

We're taking a short breather from the Atlas tales this week, but will be back soon enough with more for those of you that voted for it... in the meantime here's a Vince Fodera "cat-horror" story that I had already scanned and on file (originally intended for posting eleswhere) but since I barely have time to even change my mind lately here ya go.

From the February 1954 issue of Mister Mystery #15.

NEXT! Ghosts Gone Wild!

  2. At first I felt sorry for the dude because Gloria was a super duper uber bitch. But then I saw that they deserved each other. Talk about what goes around comes around!

  6. Wow. This was pretty cool. I ended up being the bad guy instead of my wife. That's kind of new. I mean, I can read in all sorts of perverse messages here--like how "not being a man" in some fifties sense is tantamount to deserving all kinds of karmic crap. But in the end, this story seems to relate a complex moral hierarchy that many pre-code stories, with their simplistic iterations of cut-and-dried causality, don't ever pause to consider: this time, deserving murder isn't quite as terrible, on the redemption scale, as doing the murder itself. Or perhaps being a greedy but acquiescent new-ager cum petty sociopath is morally worse than being a wealthy and subordinating opportunist? Or maybe reincarnation exists to puckishly facilitate the repetition of our asymmetrical relationships? Oh heck, the ramifications go on and on....

But nice one! I love the bottom panel on the first page, where Gloria has broken into some kind of angry raving yuppie dance at the thought that I've been to the swami behind her back.

  7. Gloria the cat looks strikingly like mine, but I'm definitely not going to show her this story. I don't want her getting any ideas when I run out of her Temptations treats!

Mr. Cavin's wording once again leaves me in awe. I enjoy reading the comments from all the regulars just as much as the stories!

The panel construction on Page Five is worthy of special note. I'm not sure it works altogether that well, but the guy gets points for trying

  9. Thanks for the comments gang... totally thought I might get chewed out for no Atlas post this time, but in case anyone is on the verge of complaining please note I have a Mystic classic ready to go for Wednesday (plus another one from Mister Mystery!)

Thanks again, see ya's in the mourn!
