Ask for more bloody werewolf tales and you shall get more bloody freakin’ werewolf tales! Ahhhh-ooooo! And here’s a rather vicious yarn from the Sept '54 one-shot issue of Horror from the Tomb #1.
It is always thus: our werewolf lives in a Bavarian-style mountain village the size of my back pocket, and early on, he says: "I must be more careful. Now that I've killed off seven eighths of the townfolk, people are BEGINNING TO GET SUSPICIOUS."
A WERELION!! OMG TOO FUNNY. AND WHAT A QUICK TRANSFORMATION SHE MAKES. THIS STORY DOES CONTAIN QUITE A FEW BRUTAL PANELS, MOST NOTABLY THE FIRST ONE ON PAGE TWO WHERE THE WEREWOLF HAS EATEN ALL THE FLESH OFF THE VICTIM'S CHEST! OW!!! AND THE LAST TWO ON PAGE FIVE.
Werewolf Wednesday (or weekday) just gets better and better. Thank you very, very much Karswell, as one of the aforementioned askers / getters I could not be more pleased with this one.
But do people really don lederhosen for the ascent of a windblown snowcap? Not that leather shorts aren't the pretty smart choice for manly wolfman wear. That funny green Peter Cushing hat, too. As a matter of fact, I am going to have to make a paper doll out of that last panel.
That is indeed some crazy spam, it's almost too cool to delete. And it goes great with the other invisible comments I've received from ghost samurai, beaked mouthed yokai, and hopping vampires.
Fans of today's tale might want to check out an equally goofball story from this issue of Horror From the Tomb #1 that I posted waaaay back in August of 2007 called "The Bone Man" with art by Mannie Bank:
This one is so delightfully gory!! And, the werewolf in shortpants featured in the last panel on page 5 is easily the most excellent thing I've seen all week.
Karswell and Kitty have kome to konquer... Damn, I'm all outta K's!
Excellent werewolf artwork, and a few bones and red blood throughout to ensure the upcoming code regulations! The ending on this one was kinda silly, though.
This is one of the few werewolf tales I've seen where the man is completely conscious of his murderous impulses even when he is not under the spell of the moon.
Haha... great comments on this post still coming in today too. Thanks again everyone, and thanks to those who stopped by Kitty's blog too for the story there (if you haven't read it yet then don't delay, not only is it a cool werewolf tale but it falls into our Freakish Frozen Frights Fest this week as well.) I'd like to thank Shari again for hosting... you will definitely see more THOIA story scans posted at KKFBTG along with all her other great horror related goodies--- so bookmark her now if you haven't already, leave some playful comments, and become a Cat Fancier too!
Sorry I missed this one yesterday! Am I the only one picking up some strange subtext here? "I eye the man's stocky figure and my mouth waters..." "I have never cared for women before..." OOER!
I must be jaded by reading Karswell's stuff all the time, b/c I knew as soon as I read that her name was LEONA that it was going to end the way it did. Reminds me of that other story where I was rightly suspicious of the old woman named MURDERIA CLAWYERFACE. ;)
What this one lost in respect from me with the old "I can change when I wanna"-wolf, it gained back by showing him in liederhosen. I...die...

ReplyDeleteThanks again, K.
"as I've said, we have were-monkeys..." Now there's a story I'd like to see.

Good werewolf story. I've always been interested in this one shot issue so thanks for pointing us to the other story too.
ReplyDeletewere-wombats!
ReplyDeleteI forgot what a good werewolf this was. I forgot the compound fracture as well, ouch.
ReplyDeleteWerewolves in Lederhosen ought to be a band.
