Stink of Death Weekend continues (and ends) with one final, fetid, noxious offering from the March 1954 issue of Strange Mysteries #16.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
TOMORROW: We take a 4 day look at ACG’s cool but totally phony “TrueVision” 3-D. “Life & Color – Without Glasses!” It’s Adventures into the Unknown #53, in its entirety!
Nothing like a wholesome story about kissing bones and making out with Dick. And did everyone notice what kind of kickass big tall hat that coachman was wearing? I'm sensing a theme....
Superb artwork , and the "phantom coachman" is a truly great character ;LOVE his "Be seeing you" line in the "happy ending" panel ... Thanks for sharing
Lovely and creepy. Energetic, and no X-Men style (it must be original, but I miss the X-Men faces... although I definitely prefer horror comics than X-Men).
There are 8 million stories in the naked city ... and death making his round is one of them :-)
Frankly I don´t get what was so moving about the happy couple. She would rather commit suicide than be disinherited? Huh? And she has to drag the boy into a suicide pact because of this? I would have let her rot *fg
Still, a very good story with some terrific artwork.
For that stunt I'll bet he'll spend the next millennium shovelling the stables. (I guess the Powers Responsible consider the internal combustion engine a transient fad.)
As do the corpses inside the coach. Stinks to be dead you know...
>kickass big tall hat that coachman was wearing? I'm sensing a theme
And I'm sensing something else! *shakes fist at you across the miles*
>Oh, Lord, is that the wolpire?
Yes Todd, the Wolpire is coming for YOU, tomorrow in fact!
>the "phantom coachman" is a truly great character
I agree. I love how his teeth can change size from panel to panel too. Biggest mouth on a skeleton EVER (bottom panel pg 7.)
>I definitely prefer horror comics than X-Men
Me too Mina! And I'm sure most people who visit THOIA would also agree. Define an "X-Men face" for us all though... I'm most curious.
>There are 8 million stories in the naked city
Pre-code Horror/Noir is still not as fully explored here at THOIA as I would like. Thanks for the reminder Andy, I think it might be time to mix things up a bit again. Soon.
>the Powers Responsible consider the internal combustion engine a transient fad
Kind of like blogging, or commenting on a blog...
>Somewhat unsettling idea that Death might decide to take you prematurely just because he disagrees with your lifestyle.
Sounds like a certain christian God who rules with unshakable power.
I'm certainly impressed by the amount of comments here already on a Sunday mourn. Thank you all for coming by. And as mentioned, the infamous, dreaded Wolpire will be swooping down upon you all tomorrow! (Todd's first though on his list.) It's new! It's different! It's THOIA's first presentation of ACG's "TrueVision." I guess if an elbow breaks out of a panel then that's considered "3D" right?
Great art!but that's not the biggest mouth on a skeleton i've ever seen, there's some panels of the Red Skull in CAPTAIN AMERICA that have bigger "Kirby villain mouths" but that doesn't count.I SLEEP NOW!.
So, the coach smelled of death, then? I got the vague idea that it might.

Isn't that sexual harassment what the coachman is doing to Eva on page 7?
ReplyDeleteAWESOME STORY. THE COACH ITSELF IS WICKEDLY DRAWN!!
ReplyDeleteREALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE ACG STUFF THIS WEEK, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THE TRUEVISION 3D STORIES BEFORE.
