Sergeant Spook originated in the June 1940 issue of
Blue Bolt Comics #1, and thus appeared in most issues throughout the entire legendary comic book series run for nearly 10 years. A simple premise:
As a policeman killed in action, Sergeant Spook returns from the dead in supernatural form to fight crime. He’s a fun character, kind of like a
Copper Topper (
hee hee, I made a funnee) and today’s cool juvenile weirdie comes from the
Daring Adventures #9 reprint from 1963.

ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly a fan of this kind of tales , nice artwork though ...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
THIS KIND OF THING HARKENS BACK TO THE OLD FILMS OF THE 30'S AND 40'S. I ACTUALLY LOVE TALES LIKE THIS, LITTLE KIDS IN TROUBLE WITH BAD GUY CROOKS IN A SPOOKY SETTING. LOTS OF FUN, NICE TO SEE YOU MIX IT UP KARSWELL WITH OTHER TYPES OF INTERESTING HORROR TALES LIKE THIS.
ReplyDeleteI like the variety too, you never know what you'll get from day to day.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect product of its time; if you hadn't mentioned the decade I still would have guessed between '35-'45.
Well, this is a bit too young for me to really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteFrom a craftsman point of view this is solid work, though.

REMINDER: THOIA ia dedicated to the PRE CODE ERA, and there are no real guidelines to what can and can't be posted here, as long as there is a "horror element." What gets posted here is a reflection/examination of what happened during those times. It all has it's place on this blog (you guys would get bored as fast as me if it was only about the SOTI grue 'n gore.)
Next up: Chip 'n Dale--- "TRAPPED IN SATAN'S CREMATORIUM!"

ReplyDeleteOh, if only that really existed...
"OW! MY FACE! I'M SHOT!" "WOW!"
ReplyDeletenot violent enough for you? granted it turned out to be a harmless incident, but really, it's the thought that counts. that kid intended to BLAST HIM! this entry in it's way is just as bizarre and extreme as anything you would usually see on THOIA.
just what i needed for a lazy sunday afternoon. maybe it could be a weekly tradition, like a kiddie matinee?
variety is the shotgun-blast-in- the-face of life...
I dont mind these kind of stories every once in awhile too and like the professer dude said its the perfect matinee tpye story for a sunday afternoon or in my case for the evening.
ReplyDeleteHe walked all the way home in pajamas?
ReplyDeleteThat was fun. So this Jerry kid can not only see and speak with Spook but they also speak telepathically? That kid is 12 going on 40
