From the January 1954 issue of The Beyond #24

And from the lair of another black widow it's--- Tenebrous Kate from Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire! Barely escaping some indescribeable, unseen rapey beastie thing (just out of photo frame), TK discovers that by luckily procuring the horrific terrific new THOIA babydoll-tee (which doubles as a protective shield) she has thus won herself yet another day of movies, art, and other assorted lurid weirdness. Ahhh, precious life. Fantastique!
But then suddenly... AIEEEEEEEE!!!
Hey! There! There goes the Spider Man!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm fond of comics - but my weakness is horror. I do love all the horror stuff since my early childhood and I'm the biggest horror fan of the world.
ReplyDeleteThe artwork of this story left me speechless ; it's these kind of gems that led me to this blog day after day ...
ReplyDeleteOnce more , Thanks for sharing !
THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST FULL ISSSUE OF STORIES YOU'VE EVER POSTED, AT LEAST SO FAR...... WE STILL HAVE ONE MORE DAY TO GO RIGHT? IHAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH TINY LITTLE SPIDERS LET ALONE GIANT ONES THAT ARE ALSO HALF MAN. TOO TOO CREEPY.
ReplyDeleteAND GREAT PIC OF KATE, SO FAR MY THOIA SHIRT HAS PROTECTED ME FROM ALL THE UNSEEN RAPEY BEASTS TOO!!!
Tis a damn good thing that I had that shirt, Mr. K! One of the unspoken HORRORS of urban life is the potential for a rapey beastie thing to show up unannounced AT ANY MOMENT.
ReplyDeleteVIOLENTLY, even (what is WITH the re-use of that word in today's comic? Violently ill, violently quick...)
Further to the Spider Man (Man Spider?) comic, I'll have to get back to you on where non-rapey half-mans-half-spiders rank in the exploitation hierarchy. I need to give this Some Serious Thought.
Oooh! I want! I want a T-shirt too! Even I can only aspire to be one of the cool kids. Do you have one in girl XL?
ReplyDeleteI was once an arachnid, in a previous life.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Kate... Truly, I marvel at your pose-striking ability. And also your shiny lower-half. Anyone can wear vinyl, but to do so in the summertime, while the sun is out... Could there be a better definition of "fortitude?"
I think not.
"I want to make violent love to you."
-- Oingo Boingo (in keeping with today's violent theme)
Luv,
Kitty (who be sweatin' in non-fabulous cotton)
A lengthy tome of spideriffic terror in today's story- and what a perfect story to read while listening to the brand spankin' new Alice Cooper CD "Along Came A Spider"!!(A MUST HAVE!!)
ReplyDeleteIn fact, this story begs to be accompanied by the Alice Cooper tune "The Black Widow" from his "Welcome to my Nightmare" record...
"These words he speaks are true- we're all humanary stew- if we don't pledge allegiance to... THE BLACK WIDOW!"
The Black Widow spider doesn't kill the male till AFTER they have mated. Reading between the panels, one can assume that sometime during on of his transformations, he...
ReplyDeleteOn second thought, I'd rather not think about it. THAT is scary.
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJEEEEEEEEEEEE
hi friend!
A great batch of comments here today, and some new faces too! I welcome all aboard the Horror Express, supplying daily excursions into the weird, the lurid, the... oh wait that's already taken... ummmm, how about into the bottomless pit of horror? Thanks again to everyone who stopped by.
ReplyDeleteSo tomorrow is the final tale from this most excellent issue of The Beyond, and I'll also have some updates on what you can expect here at THOIA throughout the mummified month of August.
And once again thanks to Kate for the photo, stupid ass me forgot that I was going to post your Vincent Price painting as well... will do that soon with an appropriate story post, and to Costuminatrix (and anyone else interested) please email me at karswell@hotmail.com for info on how to get yourself a terrifying THOIA shirt. All sizes in stock and ready to grace a torso.
I gotta get me one of those shirts, Karswell. Even if I don't have the figure to pull it off...
ReplyDeleteAnd if this is what you pull out for July, I can't wait to see what you've got in store for Halloween. Me, I figure I gotta start work on it now, since we've only got...three months now...
Patrick: I was waiting for somebody to throw a fistful of Alice on the table. That's a great song, and one of my favourites by AC (probably because of the Price intro).
ReplyDeleteI like how "spider" and "insect" are interchangeable throughout this.
