Werewolf!

Bill Everett Tribute: Day Three continues with another Stan Lee scripted story for the extremely short lived but generally excellent Menace series. I wish my scans were from the original comic but instead you’ll have to make do with the July 1974 reprint version from Chamber of Chills #11.

    ANOTHER GREAT EVERETT TALE! THE MAN COULD DO NO WRONG, HE TAKES THE SOMEWHAT OBVIOUS STAN LEE SCRIPT AND REALLY MAKES IT SHINE.

    And you thought Larry Talbot had it rough...sheesh.this wasn't Everett's only werewolf story for MENACE,he did one called "To kill a Werewolf"that i have in an issue of VAMPIRE TALES,but while,the lead in that story was a death-deserving jackass,Waldo here is the biggest victim of circumstance i've seen next to Walter Paisley.

    Yep, an unfortunant end to a very unfortunant guy... of course he did marry the old bat though (that should have been his first sign of a bad moon rising.)

    The beginning reminded me of the fram story for Creepshow (and lots of other movies/comics stories) where the parent/wife/authority figure doesn't want the son/husband/subservient character to read his silly books/comics/Playboys and brings about the horrific vengeance of the conclusion. Let this be a lesson to all disapproving mothers and wives! Burn comics at your own peril! :)

    Waldo kind of reminds me of the hillbilly characters from that old Bugs Bunny cartoon. And his friends aren't much smarter than he is, coming out to attach him without thinking he might be armed. I guess things get pretty boring at "Brown's Bar & Grill"...

    Well, you can only assume that back in the day she was quite the looker. Or maybe she had..OTHER talents... (wink-wink)
