Hive!

I was looking back through my archive and semi-shocked to discover that I haven’t posted a full Harvey horror story is over two months! So starting today we’ll have ourselves a fest with stories, one-page fillers, funny strips, ads, and of course whatever else floats to the surface over the next three or four days. And what better way to kick it all off than with this ironic, bloodcurdling bug bonanza from the great Lee Elias!
From the March 1953 issue of Tomb of Terror #8

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PLUS! A trio of great Harvey Ads from the 50's!

Damn!that's a great plot, one of the best "comparative" stories i've seen in comics!not as good as Eisner's "2 lives" or Severin's "the stars...my salvation" but superior to that Batman/Joker story and that Santa Claus story from last Christmas.and man,Lee Elias does such good facial expressions,so subtle!.my only beef is that Charlie is a fairly decent guy and Claire is a fair boss,so the workers come off as jealous pricks,if Charlie and Claire were assholes it would be justified, but since we DONT see him die i actually think he might've survived.(or died and his bees avenged him)this is one of the few stories i've seen here with an ambiguos ending!.

  2. But one by one, did the huge furry stingers plunge into his body, filling him with their venom?

    Don't answer that.

Thank you for the great Harvey horror story. The Harvey horror titles are some of my all-time favorites. I'll be looking forward to the other ones you post over the next several days as well.

I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE COMMENTS, HARVEY HORROR TALES ARE QUITE UNIQUE. THE ELIAS ART IS GORGEOUS AND HORRIFYING, THOSE GIANT TALKING BEES REALLY GIVE ME THE WILLIES. NICE TWIST TOO.

  7. Ah, fabulous! Great art & a great story. I agree with Horror Pariah, Elias' facial expressions are amazing. The page three panel with the bees over Charlie's shoulder is simply incredible.

I am so glad you're posting Harvey stories because they are my all time favorites. Ever since I read the giant lobster story in Chamber of Chills #7 I've been hooked. It was simply the weirdest most grotesquely fun story I had ever run across- I highly recommend that one.

    Keep 'em coming, Karswell!

  8. Wow, really jumpin' on a Saturday around here! Maybe it's because this post is the bee's knees!

I love the way the dream comes true, not supernaturally, but metaphorically. A nice twist on the "it was all a dream" trope that usually leaves me cold. And great art, as everyone has said.

Moral of the story: when you get a raise, don't go rubbin' your former coworkers' noses in it. It's poor form.

  9. Damn, that was crazy. Normal sized bees are scary enough! (Well, to me anyway, they sting.)

I'm glad I was able to read that one...in a way it felt kind of like one of those choose your own adventures stories. I'm not all that familiar Harvey (I don't think anyway) so it was nice to see this.

  10. Excellent turn out today, thanks to all who stopped by! And with lots more Harvey terror on the way it truly is the smart thing to do daily--- cuz you never know what you're going to miss!

Don't have that issue, care to share some scans?

  11. Maybe he meant Bride of the Crab in Chamber of Chills #12?

I would love to only I'm kinda' nervous about flattening it out on my scanner bed. As the resident expert of scanning pre-codes, do you have any suggestions, Karswell?

Suggestions... well, considering I scan my comics in exactly the manner you just said makes you nervous I guess I'm the wrong guy to ask.

  14. Well, since you've been so good to supply me with a daily pre-code fix for free, I will do my best to scan in that story and send it to you. It's quite a doozie (and, if I recall correctly, the reason that issue is in SOTI).
