I always liked this one because I thought he looked more like a wolfman than a monkey goon. But yeah, it hardly plays any more frightening than say a Three Stooges in a haunted house with a gorilla suit on the loose scenario.
You would be amazed how often Bela ended up encountering simians, even having a match up with Sammy petrillo in the "LSD will greatly enhance your enjoyment" film BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA,in fact i'd even say Bela was in as much,if not more ape movies than vampire movies!(MARK OF THE VAMPIRE doesn't count.).
I prefer Karloff's Ape movie, but that ain't saying much.
ReplyDeleteNOT ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES EITHER, BUT IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST LUGOSI FILMS I EVER SAW AS A KID.

ReplyDeleteA better Lugosi ape movie would be Murders in the Rue Morgue, although Lugosi doesn't play the ape.
