From the same issue of Voodoo as yesterday’s post comes this eerie tale of a future world overrun by the undead, but with a really wild “zombiocracy” twist. This would probably make a great George Romero plot, that is, once he ever runs out of zombie movie ideas of his own. “I have a dream…”
From the March - April 1954 issue of Voodoo #14
Zombie Power? Nazi Power! Communist Power! Those were the days where the bad were bad but could hide their ugliness under a normal appearance. Not like today... well... How about Bush Power? Does he have a soul? One thing for sure, his brain is damaged. I guess I shouldn't say that... One of his zombies might be reading this.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the «yawn dream»!
THOUGHT PROVOKING STORY, LIKE JAMES SAID PARALLELS NAZIS AND EVEN OUR CURRENT PRESIDENTIAL STATE. ROMERO WOULD PROBABLY BE ALL OVER THIS ONE YOUR RIGHT!
ReplyDeleteThis could have made a great one-shot, expanded out into a much fuller story. I would have liked to seen more of the human reaction / point of view too. But it's still one of the better, more ambitous Farrell yarns I've come across lately.
ReplyDeleteNo brains; no fear: I am seeing a solution to the Writers' strike, here--replace them with zombies!!
ReplyDeletetotally cool! and what you bloggers out there dont suspect is that karswell is a zombie too!
ReplyDeleteThis is considered fiction?.scary.i gotta admit this is one of the most imaginative & prescient stories you've ever posted,i'd love to see this as a mini, with say,the reactions of other supernatural creatures.ps:there's an undertakers union?bet their name was "4 my diggaz".
ReplyDelete>karswell is a zombie too!
ReplyDeleteI've been found out! Yes, I've been a member of the U.W.Z. for over half a century now.
>"4 my diggaz".
Ha ha!
A little cold war anti-communist propaganda. Still, it was a good read.
ReplyDeleteAfter a week at my job, people do turn into zombies.
>After a week at my job, people do turn into zombies.
ReplyDeleteTotally... for the last few weeks I've been commissioned to re-design a set of 7 Pilates dvd covers and it's totally turning me into a brain deader too.
Karswell: That's pretty cool that we both have movie visions for this one. It does scream big-screen doesn't it? Or maybe awesome sci-fi channel TV series.
ReplyDeleteAlot of fans for this story , But I didn't like it a bit strange and ending wasn't that great.
ReplyDelete500,000 corpses per day? Talk about far fetched.
ReplyDeleteFor whatever reason the oddly distorted style of art really appealed to me. Especially the panel with the big floating Z head. Also really liked the way death was framing so many of the panels. Thanks Mr K !
