With Halloween quickly approaching one thing that's fun to do is get together with your friends and tell spooky stories to really get into the mood. And what better tales are there than the ones based completely in 100% reality. Like the one about the guy in the backseat of the car with the axe! Or the one about the stoned babysitter who microwaved that baby!! Yeah, all of these stories, or “urban legends” as the faithless label them, believe it or not, really did happen… uh, to a friend of a friend. Like this one, courtesy of Mitch O'Connell…
this is a classic! i love urban legend stories and mitch oconnell is amazing
ReplyDeleteThis isn't funny. A friend of my mom's died this way. Except I think it was scorpions.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I agree, O'Connell's artwork is amazing. Good to see this little tale!
ReplyDeleteDr. Phibes, ha ha ha!

I'm waiting for Hollywood to come up with a ridiculously stupid updating of "the killer terrorizing the babyitter from the upstairs telephone extension." Only this time he's text messaging the victim on her cellphone and the death threats use abbreviated lol, iggy (I'm gonna get you!) and those little frowny mean faces with devil horns and stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite possible this lame idea was already utilized in a Japanese horror movie though. Coming soon to America as a Roy Lee remake!
--And it shall star Paris Hilton, and feature a top-billed Wes Craven as the sheriff, and it's retarded fans will defend it by calling it Tourneur-esque,even though they've never watched one of his movies, and LL cool j will cameo as the token black guy who gets killed after 19 minutes but will make a mint off the song based on the movie...man that sounds scarier than my METHOD MAN & RED MAN MEET CANDYMAN idea.
ReplyDeleteI just read that they're remaking Hitchcock's The Birds starring Naomi Watts.
ReplyDeleteIt's really really gotta stop...
Send Hollywood a rune!unleash the 7 biblical plagues!cover all producers in hot wax!anything.man'im almost nostalgic for the age of slasher movies,at least there was SOME originality.on a lighter note, ever tried making up your own urban legend to see how popular it gets?.

ReplyDeleteI once started a joke that started the whole world laughing...
>I once started a joke that started the whole world laughing...
ReplyDeleteI remember that one. Here's the punchline: Would I? Funny stuff.
No no, the punchline was
ReplyDelete"wood eye."
I have this O'Connell story from his cool collection of random art and other comic stories too. Great stuff! Maybe someday you could post Tor Loves Betty!

ReplyDeleteGood idea, I have that Mitch collection too so I'll make a note of your request. FYI: The scans for this post came from a Dark Horse comic book one-shot called Urban Legends from '93... it has a cool Dan Clowes cover with a sweaty guy eating a batter-fried rat. "Good lord that ain't chicken--!"
Damn, Mitch O'Connell rules-- definitely post more
