Time to switch gears a little and go from “Toddlers in Terror” to “Toddlers OF Terror”…think I’m kidding? With a title like Vampire Brats how can ya go wrong?
typical early marvel / atlas using an artist like bellman on a horror story when he's better suited for a romance or crime tale.... give it to sinnot or maneely and a creepy, efficiently well written story like this pays off in a more memorable way.
I agree, some artists are definitely better equiped for horror than others... Bellman's not bad but the mood isn't there, at least not one that you would normally get from guys like Everett or Colan... or Russ Heath, who I have a couple great examples lined up with starting tomorrow!
Alan Bellman is like a costumed tour guide,if the story is fairly weak his art is dull and doesn't lift the proceedings,if the story's complicated,his simple style makes it accessible,and there are moments,like Junes face on pg.1,panel 3,or the look of evil on the nurses face,i wonder if she became a vampire after this?,it would explain the narration's past tense. i also have to mention,i've had WAY scarier babysitting experiences,way scarier.
HA HA GREAT STORY.... COULD OF BEEN A LITTLE MORE DARK AND ATMOSPHERIC BUT STILL FUN NONE THE ELSS AND LOOKS LIKE EARLY DITKO
