Lover Beware

From the comments received on the Joe Sinnott post from a few days ago I decided to toss one of his moody monster tales at you too, this one also containing a similar color scheme like the other (and apparently evil runs rampant in purple cloaks everywhere in the Atlas realm!) I’ll see what else I have from ‘ol Joe for the coming weeks, months etc… but this story here is one of my favorites.

From the June 1953 issue of Spellbound #15

Divorce.really big no-no back in the day, incest, and mention of love-making,WOOOOO! this must have torn the senate guys a new one!,you can just see echoes of what would become the slasher movie moral decades later"lose your virginity, lose your life",still the story isn't bad, though the inking suggests that what Bernie Krigstein said about Stan having artists mimic Joe Maneely, may be true, still Sinnott shows off some great design, and Noki is a monster i would love to see in marvel continuity some day(the Zombie from "Zombie!,Arthur Nagan from "the apes that walked like men" and the robot from "I,the robot" have all showed up in modern-day super-hero stories)considering that Aarkus the Vision fought a similar monster during the'40's,maybe it could even have some connection to Loki,it would be more creative than other plot devices!

  4. What'd you think of Agents of Atlas? I liked it alot but thought it ended a little weak. Nobody likes to see the yellow menace turn the other cheek...

I thought it was hard to get into unless you cruise websites like MONSTER BLOG,and some parts were just thrown in to sell t-shirts or promote a movie("that'd be a kick-ass hot dog stand!")but still,it was refreshing to see a good old,Doc Savage-type of adventure story other than"im the god-damn batman!" stuff ive suffered through for 7 years, but my only real complaint was yeah, the Yellow Claw's reason for spending billions and endangering the earth and killing hundreds of innocents for decades was to promote a new Khan?,i laughed half to death at that.

  6. The fish - which looks like a shark - would probably have adequate grounds for vengeance just for being confined in that tiny aquarium.

By the way, I'm Indian and notionally Hindu - and, obviously, there is no Hindu legend of any fish woman demon. And no Hindu demon of any kind looks like that, either.

  7. Also, I realise that the word "lovemaking" had different connotations in 1950, but let's just imagine what would happen if Noki the fish demon woman saw two men, or two women, kissing. Who does she kill? Both?
