Yes, it’s another tale of terror from the March 1952 issue of Chamber of Chills #6--- ARRGHH!! YIIIII!!
DAMN SO FAR YOUR RIGHT THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT ISSUE OF CHAMBER......ONE MORE STORY TO GO!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love pre-code horror comics I have to admit that it's a rare thing to find a single issue that contains ALL winning stories... even EC had their rotten eggs. There's usually at least one element inside that screws something up, like a good story with bad art or vice versa. Especially frustrating is a story with an awesome title and splash page (like, The Corpse In The Vat! for example), but then the story itself doesn't live up to expectation.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of Harvey comics, they seem to be one of the most guilty. Take their Witches Tales series, the highlight is always the awesome Lee Elias cover art, and after that it's usually all downhill from there... proving once again you can't always judge a comicbook by its cover.
OK,this was even better than the jelly donut,er...death story,i wonder if he cleared himself or ended up with supernatural powers? it would have been better if it ended with the 3 jackasses in hell being told "you too have passed the initation..for eternal torment!",but a lot of harvey stories could have been better.
ReplyDeleteIf Ace Magazine had done this story the sissy pants would have shown up at Devil's Well at midnight and the cloaked skullfaced cultists would have actually been the real demons from Hell. Chauncey would have played along thinking it was just the hazing only to find out otherwise just as he was being cast into the lake of eternal hellfire. Thennnnnn the 3 frat boys would have shown up after it was all over, figured the wimp chickened out and then they would have went back to the dorm and drank beer, smoked pot, panty raided the nearest sorority house and then... oh wait, sorry... now it's turning into a letter to Penthouse.
ReplyDeleteHA HA HA... THAT'S VERY FUNNY!!!!
