Another lengthy horror actioneer from the March 1953 issue of Strange Terrors #7 (see previous post), and this time joltin' Joe Kubert is on hand to lead you through the perilous jungle, showing you all just exactly why he has a goddamn art school. Dynamic visual work as always, and though the evil, great white hunter story typically contains the usual assortment of deadly deja vus, there are still a few weird and worthy surprises along the way.

The Horn of Palzner
Here's a bizarre one for you, from the March 1953 issue of Strange Terrors #7. It reaches for a Quatermass and the Pit type level of ancient legend and superstition mixed with a sudden shocking science fiction alien invasion swerve. It almost works too-- until it doesn't-- becoming disappointingly muddled just as it starts getting good, (and that rushed ending doesn't really help either.) But those bonkers, Mardi Gras-headed, Matt Fox-esque beings from outer space added to the otherwise realistic approach to all of the other highly detailed art, just makes for a super surreal story on par with some of the best 1950's sci-fi monster films. Who's the artist here?

Dying is So Contagious
How many different ways are there to die? It's an interesting question, and might make for a good experiment. So let's see how it's all progressing with a dead end trip down to the 'ol Iger Shop and the March - April 1954 issue of Haunted Thrills #14. This story is a truly creepy crime / horror classic, with nearly a half dozen Eerie Publications reprints / re-dos to come later on down the road in the 60's and 70's!

The Walking Bones
If that scary skeleton cover on the March 1978 issue of Grimm's Ghost Story #43 didn't clue you in, it actually has not one, but two boney tales within! Todays post, to me, is the better of the two, and features art by Golden Age great, Joe Certa. I think we'll save Sam's bones for another day though...

The Living Dead
Time to see if they've made any advancements in life extensions with an early Jay Scott Pike entry from the April 1951 issue of Adventures into Terror #3.

The Blood Sucker of Banta Gulch / Beasts of Horror!
Everyone seemed to enjoy our previous excursion into the weird wild west, so let's do it again with a Double Creature Feature this time, and both starring lily-livered pantywaist by day, Chet Fairchild, who puts on a good nervous Nelly sissy show, but then dons a scary skull mask by night to take on the eerie evils of the Earth as --The Masked Marvel! Fun stuff for you gallopin' gourmets of ghoulishly goofy Golden Age western / horror! From the October 1951 issue of Gunsmoke #15, and the January 1952 issue of Gunsmoke #16.
