The Old and the New!

I very rarely, if ever, upload post-code ACG stories to this blog because... well... typically they're not that great. But today's story from the November 1957 issue of Forbidden Worlds #60, is actually a bit spooky at times thanks to Ogden Whitney's chilling winter touches, plus some nice writing that propels this somewhat predictable premonition story along in the same fun manner as an old Twilight Zone or Tales of Tomorrow tv episode. And the added bonus-- a New Years Eve setting!

The Ghoul and the Guest

A funny little Iger Shop tale from beyond the grave, and from the giant-sized Voodoo Annual #1 one-shot (1952.) I wonder if Farrell had any plans to do more annuals like this, because damn-- 100 pages of grimy horror for only 25 cents (back then) must've seemed like the bargain of the century!

The Sewer Keeper / The Some-Thing

If the stress of the holidays have left you frightfully frazzled and eerily exhausted, then maybe what you need right now is to kick back with a good lurid laugh-- yes, a GET LOST double feature might be just what the horror host ordered! First up, from the April - May 1954 issue of Get Lost #2 is a hilariously gruesome satire of precode horror comics (EC to be exact) guaranteed to satisfy your atrocious little appetites-- followed by a chillingly hysterical parody of John W. Campbell / Howard Hawks, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, from the June - July 1954 issue of Get Lost #3. Not to get too serious, but I'm a bit surprised at myself for having never posted either of these kookball classics here at THOIA over the years until now. Enjoy!

Oh Christmas Tree!

Most of you that have been following this blog for the last decade or so know fellow commenter, Brian Barnes, aka The King of Snark, and Youtube mastermind (is that the right word?) behind Your Final Answer and Mondopiece Theatre, where, for quite a few years now he's played horror host to some of the best bad cinema in Z-grade film history. Well, let us now add a writer credit to his resume with his strangely unique entry into holiday themed short horror comic kookery and bookery! He's not the actual host this time around (whew!) but he does take the old reading of the will trope and weave a frightfully fun tale of ultra gory, tannenbaum terror! The Killer in the Snow

It's the first day of winter 2019 finally (even though it's felt like winter here in the midwest since October), so let's turn the temps down even further and make it extra chilly with a tale from the March 1953 issue of The Purple Claw #2. We've had snow monsters, snow maidens, and even snow madness here at THOIA over the years, but I do believe this is the first time we've had an actual killer snow man. And wow, this is also the first Purple Claw story I've posted in over 10 years! Kill No More!

Got another goofball gorilla tale for you today, this time from the July 1953 issue of Beware #16. I suppose the surrealness of this silly story is the real highpoint here, because the A.C. Hollingsworth artwork feels just as exceptionally uninspired and phoned-in as the slap-dash, crap coloring.

The Nameless Horror

On this day in 1976, the big Dino De Laurentiis King Kong remake was unleashed upon the world, and yeah yeah ok, it's not the best film in the world, but I totally remember going to see it as an 8 year old kid and enjoying it anyway. So with that, let's take a look at another hulking tale of hairy horror, this one swingin' its way to you from the May 1952 issue of Beware Terror Tales #1 with some truly beastly art by Bernard Baily. It's Go-Go-Gorilla Tuesday at THOIA!
