ReplyDeleteThose are some of the best alien interjections since "Spa Fon!" and "Squa Tront!"
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this tale for it's bizarre take on skeletons. Look, 1950s comic artists, skeletons are held together by tissue; remove the tissue and skeletons fall apart.
ReplyDeleteYes, you saw a skeleton in biology class but that had pins in it, OK? Yeesh :)
Joking aside, this is a great piece of grisly comic fun. It's a bit light, a bit silly, and leaving the heads but reducing the last part to skeletons (in mere moments, mind you!) is a fun, gory visual.
"DNN-GA-GUMBLE!" - frankly, I think that's a little uncalled for!
ReplyDeleteI know this puppy well, as it's in one of the three battered pub mags I own ('Tales From The Tomb' -1/73). Works just as well in colour as in B&W.
Ah the things that could have been. It's pretty obvious that the first page and a half of this story was mined directly from somebody's screening of The Third Man (1949); and I, much like this story's author (I imagine), would have loved to seen Carol Reed's movie evolved from mistaken-identity espionage thriller into sheer C.H.U.D.s-in-the-sewer horror.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work from Drazen, too!
I love when the creature casually shows up at Renzi's digs (AHH..there's one of them now.."). Wonder if it took the bus.
ReplyDeleteThis one is pretty darn sickening in an over the top way especially when the monsters descend upon a displaced persons camp of all things for victims. Also that panel in which one of the monsters proudly displays the skeletal corpses of Renzi's wife and daughter is hauntingly disgusting--in a good way.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the monsters' dialogue, one of their lines is "SNORG." Maybe they're into novelty tee-shirts.
ReplyDeleteI have this issue and it's another classic.Looking forward to the next two comics aswell.
