The Sheriff and the Witch!

In the comments of our last horror western post, Glowworm suggested that a better example of this goofy genre mash-up was this tale of weird witchcraft and supernatural shenanigans found in the November 1953 issue of ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #49, with art by Robert McCarty---so here ya's go! S'posin' I'll agree that the artwork is certainly an improvement, and the story is indeed a real hoot... but I reckon it's all just a bit more modern than traditional "old west" in my humble opinion. The Ghost of Abby Playhouse

One thing you can always count on in creepy old horror stories and film, is someone inheriting something evil. Usually it's a haunted mansion or cursed castle, or some eerie inanimate object or something-- but this time it's a playhouse! And like our last post, this tale is also from the May '53 issue of The Thing #8, this time illustrated by Bob Forgione. We might take a look at another story from this wild and uneven issue in our next post too --so stay tombed!

The Case of the Man Who Died A Lot

We'll return to more stories from THE THING series shortly, but first we have another request for a Jack Davis post, (I get Jack Davis requests weekly, btw!) And since the requestee wasn't very specific, thank god, I'm keeping the EC's locked up and digging into my 70's MAD paperback collection instead, thus dragging out this shivery chuckle fest, (written by Dick De Bartolo), and wonderfully illustrated by our man in question, the great Jack Davis-- a man who, despite a few false death rumors over the last few years, is actually very much still alive a lot! This gag filled horror gem appeared in The Return of a Mad Look at Old Movies #P4200, from March 1970.

"Mirror, Mirror, On My Wall"

Finally getting things going here in May, and we're picking up where we left off last month with another tale from the June 1952 issue of Charlton's The Thing #3. This one just happens to be the kooky cover story too about a fluff ball cloud demon with a Gene Simmons tongue, and features art by Albert Tyler who not only worked on a lot of St. John's precode horror titles like Weird Horrors and Strange Terrors, but also many crime caper comics as well like Lawbreakers, Crime and Justice, Racket Squad, and Super Spy.
