Mother Hubbard

If you're a fan of eye injury panels, and ogres with a taste for baby flesh, then today you've come to the right place! This seriously bonkers Bill Madden tale was originally featured in the March 1942 issue of Scoop Comics #3, reprinted a few years later in Spotlight Comics (same publisher), and once more in the 80's by Eclipse Comics. Yes, it's seriously goofy, but man, it's still full of horrific moments that easily rival any of the other more notorious titles of the precode era.

Operation Horror!

As Ted Cruz announces he's running for president, THOIA launches a more sensible, though no less equally neanderthal-headed operation of horror, --it's the final freak-out from the Feb-March 1952 issue of Eerie #5! This entire issue is now posted here, check the archives for "Master of the Cats", The Knife of Jack the Ripper", and our last post "I Painted Only Terror."

I Blogged a Double Feature!

Two different types of trembling tales o'terror for ya today, the first from the February-March 1952 issue of Avon Periodicals Eerie #5, it's another yarn about an insane artist that I meant to post earlier this month with Satan's Pawn (click HERE if you missed it), but due to a case of my own temporary insanity, it's now paired up rather cooly here instead with a "it's so silly it's scary" fun story from my equally insane buddy Craig Yoe-mance and featured in his latest issue of IDW / Yoe Books Weird Love #6! I Paint Only Terror art by Norman Nodel and Vince Alascia, and I Married a Monster art by (according to GCDDon Perlin, this story originally appeared in the December 1971 issue of Just Married #81. You know I never need an excuse to post an "I Did Something" double feature!

Head of Horror

Here's one from THOIA's archive by request, and I mean going waaay back to 2007 --you can go back even further to the July 1952 issue of Strange Mysteries #6 where it originally appeared too! I get a lot of requests for stories that have already been posted here over the last 8 years, (Hell, we've got over 1500 posts uploaded now, so get searchin'!) You can use the search engine at the top left of the blog to find titles, also: you can use keywords if you're not sure of an exact title. Try artist, series name, and publisher sometimes works too. Writing to me of course works but it might take me a few days to respond. Thanks again to everyone who comments here, this month is a bit hectic for me but I'll have more new posts coming up later this week. Thanks-- and stay tombed!

[Hopefully the label cloud will make searching even easier! -- Nequam]

Expedition

Charlton Premiere was a short-lived series from the late 60's, totaling five issues in all, with a jumbled mix of war and sci-fi stories, as well as a couple of issues starring superheroes. Featuring artists like Jim Aparo, Pat Boyette, and Steve Ditko, (to name just a few), the final issue of the series thankfully conjured up an anthology styled horror theme, complete with 3 different weirdo hosts introducing a collection of unfortunately sad, and rather unremarkable tales about time traveling neanderthals, invisible men, and a history-changing "presence." Todays expedition into the unlikely realm of "somewhat entertaining" horror adventure, is the best of the bunch-- just don't forget the bug spray! From the May 1968 issue of Charlton Premiere #4.

Unburied Alive!

K. Kendall emailed me looking for a Twilight Zone story she remembers about a woman terrified of being buried alive! Sounds more like a Night Gallery story, but I think I have what you're looking for-- from the November 1975 issue of Twilight Zone #67, atmospheric art by Jose Luiz Garcia-Lopez.
