Satan & Sammy Snodgrass / Satan's Impresario

Your mundane Monday just got Satanically Super-Sized with this double shot of devilry, although technically only the Atlas story actually stars Satan himself. And first up to bat is a cornball Stan Lee classic from the landmark June '52 issue of Uncanny Tales #1 (1st issue fans take note!) Neat art from Paul Reinman too, especially the bottom panel on the last page featuring a pissed-off Satan roaring back down to Hell--- love it! And afterwards, check out one of the more demented Ace stories from the Sept ’54 issue of Web of Mystery #26.

"It's just another mundane Monday {whoh oh oh}, I wish it were Sunday {whoh oh oh}..." I guess ol' Sammy Snodgrass had no choice but to accept 2nd billing. Snodgrass...lol. That's like George Glass. I really like the 1st panel.

Learn Karate! Sure, as if that could be a correspondence course. Must have been The Barney Fife Correspondence School of Karate & Other Deadly Arts. ;-p

Pretty sure the art on "Satan's Impresario" is by Frank Springer...

I like how Franz doesn't decompose at all.

So... the second story tells us that if you commit suicide, you'll be free from mind control in the afterlife? Interesting, may have to keep that in mind if I don't want to end up being roped into dodgy amateur theatre...

Also, anyone think that in the first story Satan comes across as a bit of a dork? Still a great story, though.

I ALWAYS LOVE THE DIALOG IN STAN LEE STORIES, EVEN IF THE TWISTS TEND TO GET A BIT PREDICTABLE AFTER YOUVE READ A FEW. HIS STUFF REALLY DEFINES PRECODE COMICS TO ME. GREAT ART TOO!

AND MAN THE ACE STORY WAS AWESOME. I SORT OF SAID THIS BEFORE BUT I LIKE THE NEW WAY YOUR DOUBLE POSTING.. AND ITS COOL COMPARING ATLAS WITH THE OTHER PUBLISHERS

They're both pretty funny stories... I like all the tempermental corpses in the second one. They give Schultz so much trouble. "Boo1 Fraud! You stink! Wreck the place!"

Two important lessons in one post:

Gambling and Suicide are surefire ways to protect you from evil supernatural entities.

So I guess that means Russian Roulette is the best way to deal with Russian ghosts like the Viy?

6th page, 4th panel: I like how Sammy winks at the reader.

Hmmm, interesting name for that sorcerer in Satan's Impresario.

Wasn't there another famous Rubirosa in the 50's who was also rumored to possess a powerful ferruled rod?

A bit of?

These were both fun stories! I love the way Satan is not a ruler of Hell in the first one, but rather some two-bit schlub in desperate need of constant validation. I can relate, obviously. :) Also, the 4 panels where his face changes as he loses his temper are kind of awesome.

I always thought Satan was supposed to be the Great Trickster--but he can't even figure out the GLARING loophole in his own bet! I actually was kind of hoping it would end up with the winner getting older and older and more decrepit and never dying, immortality as a wasting curse, but I guess they ran out of pages.

And the Undead Artists Actors' Union revolt in the second story brought a real smile to my face. Being a director is tough, but being an effective strangler is even tougher, apparently.

Great stuff, Daddy K! ;)

Satan's Impresario certainly oversees an overpopulated cemetery, going by the number of tombstones in that splash.

Stan Lee loved doing stories with the Devil. And who said Reinman wasn't a gheat artist back then?
