Vampira (NEWS)

I just received this astounding bit of news from the webmaster of Vampira's Attic, he writes: ”One of Maila’s original costumes has recently been discovered in a storage unit she had rented. It's a complete original costume with the wig, corset and shoes. The costume and some of her other items will be on permanent display at the Hollywood History Museum (located in the historic Max Factor building) later this year or early next year."

I’ll have more details as they become available. In the meantime please visit www.VampirasAttic.com or www.myspace.com/officialmailanurmi for any other updates.

My love for Vampira is trumped only by my love for Barbara Steele. A living goddess! I wonder if Madame is in the market for northern slave?

Thank you for linking me in - I do so love fresh meat!

Of course, I remembered shortly after commenting here that Her Vampness passed on this past Winter, thus rendering what I had written completely ridiculous :-\

I aspire to one day put down the pipe. I actually am smart. Kind of.

Indeed... and hopefully this museum exhibit will do her memory/costume justice within a nice overall Vampira display, not just propped in some glass case or hanging on a mannequin, but maybe something arranged spooky and reminiscent of her K-ABC set.

We forgive you Kitty, actually I read your comment wrong anyway and thought you were pining for a Steele position.

That'd be me. That's what I'm out here pining for. Everybody else get in line.

Vampira's wasp waist in Plan 9 looks like a digital effect we could only do today. How she achieved it back then is amazing.

With a very tightly wrapped corset that I probably couldn't even fit around my wrist! For an even more astonishing shot of the micro waist try the opening sequence to the Vampira Show:
