I was very disappointed by Curse of the Werewolf (did a long review on the subject on my blog), but Paranoiac I thought was spectacular. And say what you will, but Reed was definitely one of those larger-than-life film stars, a real character on his own, over and apart from his acting. Happy b-day!

BTW, what is it with actors who portray werewolves and alcoholism?

One of my favorite horror performances from Reed is in Burnt Offerings. Those tremendously nerve racking scenes of his childhood fears approaching in the form of the hearse driver really freaked me out as a kid. The pale evil grin on his face, the sputtering sound of the old hearse car engine coming up the drive, the thumping of the coffin up the stairs--- ya know, I should submit this to the kindertrauma blog if someone else hasn't already beat me to it.

In Burnt Offerings, I liked the pool scene where he nearly drowned his son and couldn't explain why.

Happy birthday,Ollie!hope the pub never closes in the afterlife!just kidding.i like COTW,i used to prefer it to THE WOLF MAN,but i re-watched both recently, and yep,it didn't hold up to good, but still a decent 3 1/2 star film and a great beginning for one of England's finest.

I loved Burnt Offerings, and aside from all the other good stuff in that movie, I was really impressed by Reed's ability to make his character's relationships with his wife, son and elderly aunt so warm, loving and believable. He put a lot more work into a horror movie than many actors might have.

Happy birthday, Oliver, you strangely hot bar-crawler, you.

Speaking of which, have you ever seen some of the Coffin Joe comics? The Fantoma dvd set came with some reproductions translated into English, and they were pretty sweet. I think even you would appreciate them! Maybe I should do some scans...
